Re: Does Anybody Else Here Crochet?
Oh, those pieces are absolutely lovely, Meg :) What a blessing that you were able to borrow them to study.
Have you looked at any of the Harmony Guides for crochet techniques? Many of those pieces look like variations on pattern those publications have listed.
I am able to sew, crochet and knit. I also taught myself to naalbind, which is a precursor to both knitting and crochet. I've done more in crochet than knitting or naalbinding though.
To the person who said crochet doesn't have enough drape - well, that's not entirely true. It depends on 3 things. The yarn you use, the hook you use and the stitch you use and how all those things works together in the fabric. Pretty much the same three things that make or break a knitted fabric. I can guarantee that I am capable of producing an inflexible, bulletproof piece of knitting if I don't take time to play with the yarn and the needles a bit to ensure what I am making is going to come out right. The little hook and needle guides on yarn skeins just aren't accurate for crochet hooks. If you follow their recommendation, pretty much the only thing you will make that is appropriate for the resultant fabric is a rug or a doll. It has been my experience you have to go up at least 2 hook sizes from their recommendations to get a nice, flowing fabric, and you need to pick a stitch that goes only into the front loop or the back loop of the previous row's stitch. One of my favorites for a gorgeous drape is half double crochets done alternately into the back loop and front loop across. It is appropriate for a sweater and looks amazing.
God Bless,

If we can no longer trust words to be the faithful vessels to carry our thoughts to another person's mind, then our efforts to preach the true gospel become mired in a swamp of indistinct verbiage. As Paul said, "if the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle?" And who in the world will be able to distinguish the foe from the protectors and purveyors of the truth?
