Hey Sweetp,
Here is the thread that we'll use. If I am correct, the Rainbow Bible is the NIV translation? If so, I'll get mine and we can start. Please confirm the Bible translation.
Thanks! :)
Hey Sweetp,

The Rainbow Study Bible is KJV and I also have a regular KJV.
1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
2(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
3That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
My KJV is different than this?
I'll use what you posted and my version.........they seem pretty different but maybe that will help me?
Your KJV should say the same thing since I posted KJV text. I am anal.....I like keeping me on track, so, I posted the verses. Are you saying that your Bible's text is different? If so, please post the full title of the Bible and/or if you can, post a link to somewhere like Amazon.com, who sells the Bible so that I can see which one you have.
Um, not to intrude here, Walks, but the CATHOLIC Rainbow Study Bible uses the TEV (Today's English Version) translation ... which is also known as the GNT (Good News Translation). From a SweetP post in another thread I see she was raised RCC and that is likely where she got her Bible. Could explain the issue you are having here. (BTW, the TEV is a fairly accurate translation, not a paraphrase.)
Sorry to intrude. Just wanted to help out.

JOHN 1:1
Jesus is God’s Word made flesh.
1In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and
the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning
with God.
3 All things were made by him;
and without him was not any thing
made that was made.
4 In him was life; and gthe life was
the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness;
and the darkness comprehended
it not.
This is the info from my Bible- ISBN 0310932971KJV Giant Print Reference Bible Copyright 1990 by Zondervan Corporation 1711 pages- I can't find a match online though.
The "Rainbow Study Bible" is available in multiple translations--NIV, KJV, & Catholic. The difference is that they are "color-coded" to highlight passages pertaining to faith, God, history, outreach, etc. I thought that I saw somewhere that they also have NKJV as well, but I can't find it this morning. Sweetp will need to look for the version on her Bible.
You've posted the KJV version, Walks. The NIV version:
1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4We write this to make our[a] joy complete.
Not a whole lot of difference here....
Maybe because mine is older? I might be confusing because I have two different ones I am talking about, one a study Bible, and one a Bible, but they read the same. Is there a newer or better version? I mean easier to understand? Could this be my problem or is it just me.......![]()
And here is the TEV (aka GNT) translation of 1 John 1:1-4
1 We write to you about the Word of life, which has existed from the very beginning. We have heard it, and we have seen it with our eyes; yes, we have seen it, and our hands have touched it. 2 When this life became visible, we saw it; so we speak of it and tell you about the eternal life which was with the Father and was made known to us. 3 What we have seen and heard we announce to you also, so that you will join with us in the fellowship that we have with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 We write this in order that our joy may be complete.
And, again, not a whole lot of difference. Same ideas, different words.

No it doesn't match....lol! I posted up further what mine says and it's like a whole different lanuage to me...... :sorry
Sweetp ... lol ... you are reading in the Gospel of John, not the first letter John wrote to the Churches!!! The Gospel of John is the Fourth book in the New Testament. The letters (known as epistles) that John wrote are near the end of the New Testament, just before the Book of Revelation.
The Gospels are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
The history book is Acts (written by Luke who also wrote the gospel of Luke)
The epistles (letters) are 1 Corinthians (in other words Paul's first letter to the church at Corinth), 2 Corinthians. Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, James, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, Jude.
The prophetic book is Revelation.
It is Chapter 1, Verses 1 to 4, of 1 John (John's first letter) that Walks wants you to read. Not chapter 1, verses 1 to 4, of the Gospel of John.
Does this clarify things?

Oh WOW now I feel REALLY stupid

A Most Sincere Apology ...
I want to apologize for writing into this thread. I did not realize until it was pointed out to me much later that this thread is actually in the For Ladies Only section of the forum. I typically do not go by section. When I log on to RF I immediately click on the New Posts button and read the posts that show up. Consequently I couldn't tell you whether a thread is in Apologetics, Israel and Prophecy, or whatever. The only time I look at the section titles is when I am deciding where to place a new thread.
Anyway I am sorry for sticking my nose in here. But I am far more sorry for interfering in a thread that was, I see, intended to be between two people. I did not want to interfere with Walks in her sharing with Sweetp. That was most definitely not my intention. I know the way RF works is that anything posted in an open forum is there for ALL to respond to. But, from another thread, I had recognized that Walks was dealing with Sweetp and so I had chosen not to interfere. However I realize that by my posting in this thread I may just have done exactly what I didn't want to do. So I am sincerely apologizing to Walks and to Sweetp. Please forgive me if I have caused any confusion or offense.
And Sweetp, by this apology do not think it means you have done anything wrong. Not at all. It is I who stepped out of line. Walks loves the Lord and she will prayerfully answer your questions and lead you where the Lord would have you go.
