US says weighing humanitarian aid to Syrian people

WASHINGTON - The United States is considering providing humanitarian aid to the Syrian people as Washington ramps up pressure on the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad, the White House said on Tuesday. "We are going to continue to work with international allies ... to put the pressure required," White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters. Carney reiterated that the Obama administration was not weighing the prospects of arming anti-government forces seeking to topple Assad. But without offering details, he said: "We are exploring the possibility of providing humanitarian aid to Syrians."

Instead of sending aid that will be diverted to Assad's troops, we need to help the opposition bring down this tyrant and hold him responsible for his crimes. But then again I'm not sure if there is anyone better than Assad to take over. Might end up being worse.
