Quick thought about marriage

I was reading through Matt 19 and was reminded of what a friend told me about Ephesians 5:25:

"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her."

On the surface, we see "Love your wives". Okay, great. We need to love her.

But how did Christ love the church?

He was beaten...
whipped...
spat upon...
humiliated...
crucified.
...yet he still forgave them just before he died.

Think about THAT the next time your wife is mad at you. Now go and LOVE your wife.

Amen DanLW! A completely selfless lifestyle Jesus lived for the Church. And, in the end ( or should I say the beginning) He gave it ALL!!

A very BIG lesson God taught me regarding marriage some time ago. Thus, I atribute our 35 yrs to the Lord and the Lord only. It surely wasn't because of me...

i don't think the lesson is for us to be a doormat to our wives.
Women have more love, but are so naive, thats why they are easily seduced by all sorts of stuff,
and we men are just as easily seduced by other stuff.

i've been married by the way for about 23 years.

I don't agree that the church is the bride either.
ephesians is comparative, husbands love your wife as Jesus loved the church.
We, the church are the friends of the groom, not the bride.

No, brother, the Bible says the Church is the bride. It is plainly stated in Romans 7:4; Ephesians 5:31-32; 2 Corinthians 11:2.
