A co-worker asked me at work if I have any special plans for the SuperBowl. I told him, yes, I do; a double dose of my nightly "help me get some sleep pills and get to sleep fast"! He said, you're going to bed??? My only comment was, on Monday morning, I get up at 1am. So, that means, I have to be in bed by at least 5 or 5:30 in order to get a good night's sleep. His only comment, like I said, you're UnAmerican!

So, I stay up and watch the SuperBowl and, possibly get, maybe 4 hours sleep? Then, the next day, fall asleep at the wheel while driving? Well, I'm sorry, but I think a little more of my family, not just me, than stay awake and watch a football game. Does that make me Un-American???

Good grief, Mike, don't worry about the game. If football is more4 important than being responsible and getting a good night's sleep, then football has become some kind of idol in my mind! From what that guy said, I guess the Super Bowl has become some kind of god or something.

Last I heard, all you gotta do to qualify for being American is be into baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet. Oh and cheesburgers...

Having met the man, I can tell you that if the dictionary had a picture to illustrate the term "good ol' boy" it'd be one of Mike. I am honored to call him a friend and a brother. He is as American and as Christian as you'll ever meet.

I shared this with you because, as I did, I just got a good laugh out of it. Really didn't bother me. But, as it turned out, I did end up watching the game. Well, the 2nd half at least.

Earlier today, about 11:30am, my Mother had passed away and that kind of, well, you know. We had all been expecting this to come for quite some time. But still, it's just tough. I called the office and requested to take tomorrow off just to be there with my father for the day. So, having had time to sit and watch the Super Bowl by myself actually turned out to be a blessing. I'll ask you to pray for my father if you will. George is his namel. He's hurting but really doing well, considering.

So, again, I do thank God for all of you. You were "there" with me in a rather tough time with my family and I in a way you didn't even know. God bless you all!!

Lord Jesus, through You, and by the Father's Grace, be with Mike and his family, and especially with Mike's father. Even when we are expecting a parting it is difficult to deal with. We go from it is gonna happen to the loved one is gone, no more to hear, see or touch. Lord just be with Mike's father. Cause your face to shine upon him. Be his close friend, rock, and sustainer.
