well deer season ended in Jan

    Turkey season starts in April

this year i am going to hunt
    Turkey
    dove
    deer--bow---black powder--rifle
    squirrel
    rabbit
    Bear
    Fox
    Bobcat
    and boar

NC allows one to hunt for free on state Game reserves and land

I am so excited, i got lucky at a pawn shop and picked up a Remington 11-48 semi auto 12 GA and a Remington 870 express 12 GA pump for 369.00 for both of them

Just fixed a batch of deer jerky

    Good deal on the shotguns.

I had to cancel my elk hunt this past season but am planning to go this fall.

    yes indeed

quite pleased, and the semi auto is designed for bird hunting
really for skeet but i figure it will work good

Good deal. Always a good skill to know.

BTW, I noticed you mentioned hunting with black powder. I've been wanting to get into that myself. Got any recommendations on what kind of rifle to buy?

i sure do, and its a neat way to go . here in NC black powder

is only a week long---but then when rifle season starts one can use a muzzle loader all season long

one thing i love about my state--hunter friendly

anyway this one is cheap, and a good start for a beginner
you get everything you need in the kit and if you decide you rather use a reg rifle you only have spent less than 200.00 and could sell
it and get you $$$ back

Thanks for the link. For that price, I don't think I could go wrong.

I live in western Colorado so I'll have to check on our black powder regs for the this fall.

What kind of bow and what kind of bowhunting do you do? Whitetails?

I used to be a bowhunting fool and was in the business in Northern CA. Lots of great times. Got into scuba diving, ended up in HI and lost my stride... I keep saying "someday..."

    compound

but i am not good with it and have not used it in Years

but now i have a friend who is an avid bow hunter so i will be
in good shape by the time the season opens

its gonna be a challenge, no doubt and i look forward to it

this is no joke, to be able to say i took a deer with a bow would be an honor indeed

Wow, Whitetail Hunter, an antique...but then again most bows even new are old at heart...

I find it greatly gratifying to enter an animal's sphere of natural senses and have any success at all being that their senses are so much keener than ours -- very challenging and much earned. Not to say that it is merely about the sport, not even, I wouldn't do if I didn't plan to eat the meat...

    Ah, you got me going!

    Shame on you!
Make up for it by catching a mess of rainbows for breakfast.

Went turkey hunting this spring. All I got was a couple of ticks and a spider.

The toms were all over the place--one walked about 40 yards behind me and I couldn't swing around to get a shot at him. Man, they were tough to call this year for some reason. Lots of gobblin', but stinkin' things were lazy this year!
