An old Spurgeon sermon...frightening and timeless, sobering. You don't hear this in today's churches and I suspect if the sensitive seekers of today heard Charles Spurgeon preach they'd have a better chance at repenting...

Awesome sermon, Micah! : I bookmarked it.

And if only preachers preached like that today, Rick Warren, Rob bell, and the rest of the "softies' would run for cover!

Every time I read a Spurgeon sermon I understand again why he was called the Prince of Preachers!

It could be called uncanny....today in German & Communication class the discussion theme chosen by the teacher was "Joy". He asked us to jot down our thoughts about Joy, and then we talked about it. At first the discussion revolved around having material "needs" (mostly actually "wants") met as the condition of joy and happiness. When the discussion got around to the lone fundamentalist, I told them my understanding and experience of real joy and happiness was awareness and appreciation of the presence and love of God, as a result of peace with God on the basis of His promise and guarantee and sacrifice on our behalf. I made a special point of explaining that God's love for us is not conditional on what we do, but that there is also a reckoning for our actions. At this point the teacher explained that he had recently lost a close friend to cancer, and admitted he had some anger at God for this and other examples of horrible things happening in people's lives. Thank God for Job, which I explained as a showcase of the bad things that happen to people independently of their actions...and that the whole sorry mess of what happened to Job was actually the devil accusing God of bribery and favouritism and in effect putting God on trial.

Seeing as how the culture here has been thoroughly indoctrinated with false doctrines and false representations of Jesus, I'm a bit uncertain as to whether I was an effective witness to this teacher and the class...but with the grace of God there will be more opportunities to witness further to them in the near future (unless we get raptured out or I get promoted to HQ or any of a multitude of things that are beyond my control but safely in the Lord's hands...). So, hopefully the next session will be more to the point.....the Cross and the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ as the only way to reconciliation to God and out of those awful eternal flames. We were given a rather loose assignment...to find another way of expressing the concept of Joy (I suspect the teacher knows which direction I was going and is about to do the old flesh two-step attempt at dodging the Judgement...).

So, seeing as how this guy is a stage actor, I'll write a short and very simple play to explain the irresitably powerful Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Not sure if it will be performed in reality, but whoever reads the script will have a performance for one....praying the Lord to guide me in writing and speak to these folks individually through it. I'll post it in a thread here and get feedback from my dear brothers and sisters before I put it in the hands of the lost....I'd rather scrap it than do something that leads anyone astray.
