If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. (John 12:26)
If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. (John 12:26)
Keith, don't you just love the significance of what Jesus says here in this short verse? He tells us that if any person would serve Him, then they can only do so by following Him; and in following Him they will of necessity be right where He is. And where is He? He is always where He is needed. Thus, so should the one be who claims to be His servant, the one who claims to follow Him.
If we are true, we will be wherever Jesus is, where Jesus is needed around us. We will see with His eyes, and minister on behalf of Him through the power, the wisdom, the direction that resides within us through His spirit. And as Jesus was always in the perfect will and favor of the Father, so too shall we be if we follow Him.
Yes, we will also of necessity find ourselves entering into His suffering and into His death, dying daily to self; but Jesus is now seated in Heavenly places (Ephesians 1:20), and so in this verse He is telling us we shall be there with Him, too. Indeed the Word tells us that we have already been seated by the Father in heavenly places with Him (Ephesians 2:6)! And now this verse in John tells us that not only are we now spiritually—and one day will be in actuality—seated with Christ, but that when we truly follow Jesus the Father will honor us as He does His Son!!!
Oh to be His follower in truth!
How do I know if I truly am? Simple. Am I where He is on this earth, and doing what He would have me do?
