Romney completes GOP ticket with Rep. Ryan, projects 'steadiness'

Mitt Romney announced Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate Saturday, selecting the
Republican Party's go-to man on budget issues in a decision that signals the campaign will make
the nation's spiraling debt a centerpiece of its attacks on President Obama.

Romney made the selection official during a campaign stop Saturday morning in Norfolk, Va., before
launching a four-day bus tour.

I think he's a good choice. He's tried to come up with plans to shore up medicare and social security, which were rejected by the democrats (not surprisingly). He's also young enough to stay the course, and in good health.

I just hate that our nation has moved so far left that socialist programs like SSI & Medicaid/Medicare has become "acceptable".

I agree with the idea of how did these programs become acceptable. I like Ryan. From everything I have heard and seen about him he will be an excellent choice. Kinda wish he was the Presidential nominee, and not the vice-presidential pick. I think he will do a good job.

Social security was set up back in the 30s I think as a means to provide a form of retirement benefit for workers, since they didn't have retirement programs like we do now. Medicare was a way for retirees to have medical benefits since the COBRA program wasn't set up until recently (meaning COBRA is a young program as compared to Medicare).

We all pay into SS and Medicare from our paychecks, and technically our money should be there for us to use when retire. However, as with any government program, there have been abuses by those who don't need the assistance, and our 'wonderful' government has borrowed from it; 'robbing peter to pay paul'. The end result is that both programs are going bankrupt, and soon those that truly need it will not have their benefits available to them.
