A stalwart Democratic defender of Israel lost his congressional primary bid Tuesday against a fellow Democratic lawmaker whose Arab supporters leveled charges of dual loyalty.

Longtime New Jersey Rep. Steve Rothman was bested by Rep. Bill Pascrell, who earned 61 percent of the vote after running a campaign that rallied the Arab community to the polls over Rothman’s support of the U.S.-Israel alliance.

Pascrell will now face off in a general election against superstar Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, a pro-Israel stalwart who declared himself a Republican candidate due to what he says are President Obama’s failed policies towards Israel.

As the dust settles in New Jersey’s District 9, observers wonder if Pascrell will be able to repair his fractured relationship with the state’s pro-Israel community, which largely supported Rothman and resented Pascrell’s refusal to condemn his supporters’ anti-Semitic charges of dual loyalty.

“It’s a heartbreaker,” Ben Chouake, president of NORPAC, a pro-Israel political action committee based in Englewood Cliffs, told the Free Beacon. “If Rothman’s positions [on Israel] hurt him anywhere it was in the Muslim community.”

Chouake said that despite the crushing loss, Rothman was the choice of pro-Israel voters.

“The disparity between the two candidates was substantial, and we chose a side,” he said. “If Pascrell is angry at some of us, that’s the deal. But we’re adults, and he’ll get over it in a few days.”

America does not "need" Israel. We need God and once we have Him, we would bless Isreal because we are God fearing......

Yemm, I think that is somewhat the idea mmm was trying to present. As you said "he who blesses Israel will be blessed", hence his point. And in support of that point, surely we need to quote the entire promise of Genesis 12:3— he who blesses Israel will be blessed, but he who curses her will be cursed. And we should note that in Hebrew the meaning of the words, "he who curses" (ומקללך) Israel will be cursed is contained the thought "he who treats her with contempt" will be cursed, because the words "curses" and "cursed" in English come from two completely different roots in Hebrews. The word God uses when He says He will curse means literally "to curse". The word used in the phrase "he who curses" Israel comes from a root meaning "to have contempt", "to despise".

I do not believe that the focus should be Israel, it should be God and thus I say USA needs God, to focus on Israel is foolhearty as it take away the focus from God. If we center ourselves around God then by default we will aide Israel and will be blessed as we are following His Word.

If Israel does not need America, then we can save a lot of tax dollars by cutting all military aid to Israel. After all, if Israel is under God's protection, doesn't that mean that Jesus will guide the bombs from Israeli aircraft onto the Iranian targets? The poster who says we need Christ, and not a country, is right on the money. But then, most Protestants worship Paul, and not Jesus, so it is not that hard of a shift to "Israel Idolatry."

Brother you sound like a very "practical" minded man. So here is a concept you might understand even better than Genesis 12:3.
America is Israel's ONLY true friend and support in the world. God uses His servants to work His will in the earth and while He can do ANYTHING, it should be our GREAT PLEASURE to be His instruments in helping His chosen people. Nevertheless, if America were to fall to a point where we chose to abandon Israel then I believe her enemies would quickly attempt to employ a final solution. Israel has said Never Again. If America turns from our responsibility to our ally then a nuclear war would almost be inevitable. The world may be headed toward this end anyway but we would only hasten it if we turned away from God's people. JMO, but a strongly held one.....

God didn't need Egypt either--but used Egypt to save the Israelites (See Joseph). Perhaps the US is serving this purpose in relation to Israel--at least right now. Because at some point in time, all nations will come against Israel, but until that juncture is reached, the US is the number one ally of Israel.
