Default New Bible for Public Release, Changes Jesus 'Son of Man' to ‘the Human One’

I'm really getting sick of this place...

    ================================================== ====

New Bible for Public Release, Changes Jesus 'Son of Man' to ‘the Human One’

By Nicola Menzie | Christian Post Contributor

The new edition of the Common English Bible (CEB) will be released in print and made available to the public for the first time on August 1, publicist Audra Jennings has told The Christian Post.

The publisher of the new version is hoping it will make the Bible understandable and attractive to as many people as possible. To that end, the new edition of the CEB has made several “bold” translation choices, including changing Jesus' “Son of Man” title to “the Human One.”

With the complete edition of the Common English Bible arriving from the printers this week and rolling into stores starting next month, associate publisher Paul Franklyn said the goal of translators was to make the Bible accessible and more appealing to readers of various backgrounds and denominations.

“There are a number of translations available for conservative churches,” Franklyn told The Tennessean. “This is trying to make a bridge between conservatives, moderates and liberals.”

On their website, the publishers compare the Common English Bible to the New International Version and the New Revised Standard Version.

For their “bold” new edition, the publishers say they gathered over 100 biblical scholars from across two dozen denominations and from various ethnic backgrounds to translate the Bible from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts into plain English. The publishers also field tested the new edition among 500 readers from more than six dozen groups.

Some other changes in the Common English Bible include swapping out “alien” or “foreigner,” used by some translations for passages like Leviticus 19:33-34; the Common English Bible applies the term “immigrant” instead.

The translation is also gender-inclusive, as the passage in Matthew 5:21-22 involving Jesus' teaching on the true meaning of murder shows. In the Common English Bible Jesus warns, “But I say to you that everyone who is angry with their brother or sister will be in danger of judgment.”

Another translation change involves the Lord's prayer, which avoids the King James Version's “hallowed be thy name” and includes “uphold the holiness of your name” instead.

A very unique aspect of the Common English Bible also involves its use of contractions, as readers of other English Bible versions are more likely to find “it is” instead of “it's” in the text.

The new translation was produced by five denominational publishing houses and cost about $3.5 million and four years to complete.

The Common English Bible was released in digital format late last year and made available on Bible websites, but this is the first time the new Common English Bible will be available for sale in print. Publishers have so far only made it available in paperback.

In May, Fuller Theological Seminary voted to add the Common English Bible to the NRSV and the TNIV as translations that could be required for students doing biblical studies. "We wanted something that was an academically excellent translation from Greek and Hebrew, and one that reflected our strong position regarding women in leadership," Dr. Joel B. Green, professor of New Testament Interpretation, told The Christian Post.

The changing of the Son of Man phrase is like changing the sons of God into the phrase Jesuses. It's warped, and though it may be from good intentions it's only paving their way into Hell. (or is Hell now called the place of very hot fire?)

Taking Christ out of Campus Crusade for Christ, changing up words in the Bible...all to make things more appealing to people. I wonder how all this appeals to God?

To me it all smacks of being ashamed of Jesus Christ. If we think we have to hide Him in order to attract people then we are both expressing shame at His name and doing the opposite of what God has instructed us to do. We are to lift Jesus UP, not disguise or hide Him. "And I if I be lifted up will draw all men unto Me." (John 12:32) I guess some people think that is not true.

Yes Matt, and we know what Jesus said about those who are ashamed of Him.

How can a true Christian ever be ashamed of His name??

“the Human One.” huh? Well at least the common Bible lover reading that translation will be able to equate the "Son of Man" passages in the Dead Sea Scrolls with Jesus!!! Correct? The term "Son of Man" goes back centuries before Greco/Roman influence and is used multitudinous times in the DSS. That said, it is an ancient term that should be preserved.

    Check these samples out.

    Luke 22:69-70:

    Luke 22:69-70 (NKJV)
69 Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God."
70 Then they all said, "Are You then the Son of God?" So He said to them, "You rightly say that I am."

“…but from now on, the Human One will be seated on the right side of the power of God.” They all said, “Are you God’s Son, then?” He replied, “ You say that I am. ” (CEB)

    Here is another:
    Matthew 12:32 (NKJV)
32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

32 And whoever speaks a word against the Human One will be forgiven. But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit won’t be forgiven, not in this age or in the age that is coming.(CEB)

    Gotta Love this one!!!

    Daniel 7:13 (NKJV)
13 "I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him.

13 As I continued to watch this night vision of mine, I suddenly saw

    one like a human being
    coming with the heavenly clouds.
He came to the ancient one
    and was presented before him.(CEB)

Anybody agree with me that there are too many Bible translations?? I could be wrong but usually behind the introduction of any new product there is the hope of financial gain. Since the Bible is the number one selling book it stands to reason that anybody who has the ability and the money to invest in a translator or a translation team, will try to capitalize on those sales. I am not trying to find the witch behind the broomstick, but come on. Some may disagree but there are so many translations out there that when the Scripture is read in a Bible study or the pastor quotes a lengthy passage, many of the people cannot follow along or get lost in their version as they do try to follow along. I think chasing the almighty dollar, in this case, is subtly leading to scriptural illiteracy. Just my humble opinion. Maybe it is a ploy by the enemy ...??? I am sure those on the translation team would have me crucified for thinking that!!

Sounds to me that this CEB version is vying to become the official Bible of the coming world-wide ecumenical Abrahamic religion. Approval and acceptance of the CEB could be a litmus test for identifying a Christian apostate.

I wish they'd stop making compromises when it comes to the Holy Bible. And I believe Sean is right about this translation possibly becoming the one world religion's official holy text (probably along with the koran?).

The “Common English” terms for Christ at least for me have been “The Holy, Anointed, Exalted, Risen, Perfect, Sinless One” to name a few. Oh, the Son of Man works really well too.

Wow. Guess this is really just the sign of the times. Wouldn't want to be in those translators shoes at all!

Interesting to read about this. Fairly recently I was asked to give a presentation on bibles and different translations. As we're finding out there are those translations that are just off, and was asking God to help me warn people without starting a rabbit trail or cause unnecessary issues. It seemed like a good opportunity to put in a heads up.

While I'm not a King James only advocate, I did encourage our group (since there are so many new translations coming out) to periodically check their bibles against the King James or really research their bibles before purchasing. From what I found in my research it seems the King James translation is the most faithful to accurately reflect the original Greek and Hebrew and how we are to understand God's Word as He intended it to be understood. If there's an even better resource would love to know about it!

That wasn't my main focus....however, was glad that I did it because someone came up and asked me about one bible that they had which does a pretty good job twisting scripture to say something completely different than the King James and other good bibles.

God was really faithful to give me the words and the courage to do this.....was a little afraid inside, but God provided!

Say what? Wow, well, I am not surprised.

I hope the Lord comes soon before too much more of the Word is changed and twisted.

Looks like Satan is working overtime to dillute Scripture. Personally I read the KJV version of the Bible (the older pre modernized ones) and have no trouble with understanding the words. So much for the claim people are getting smarter....

“There are a number of translations available for conservative churches,” Franklyn told The Tennessean. “This is trying to make a bridge between conservatives, moderates and liberals.”

A bridge between right and wrong?

    Or identifying the remnant!

There are so many translations out there now. Many are supposed to be more understandable than the last. Is the English language changing that rapidly? A couple of years ago they came out with the New Living Bible. It was supposed to be an update of the NIV, but people complained that they didn't think that it was an improvement of the NIV. So they waited a couple of years and retitled it the New Living Bible. Only problem is that the Living Bible was written for children and is a relative good translation (I've heard paraphrase), and to play on that title seems like stealing to me.

Just as Monsanto (translate that name....) robs future generations of the ability to grow food, the Scripture perverters and peddlers are preparing the way for this:

    Amos 8:11-12
11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:
12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

Although this quote is from another thread it's right on target here.

Calling the "Son on Man" the "Human One" implies a few things. One that jumps out is that it makes Jesus gender neutral.

This, in a very subtle way, endorses homosexuality, men being effeminate, women being masculine, cross-dressing, etc. There was a story in the news not long ago about a couple who were deliberately concealing their child's gender not only from other people but also from the child. This is just sickening to see play out.

I believe Micah is right - this is one of the many little slices that are being inflicted on an unsuspecting society and now also in the Bible. And it's happening right under our noses.

    Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made.....

Well if the reports are true, then this could be a "translation" worth avoiding. The title "Son of Man" attests to his humanity as well as his divinity. Other than in the prophecy beginning in Daniel 7:13, the term is never used in the Old Testament to refer to Messiah. Jesus appropriated it for himself and refers to himself as the Son of Man 53 times. By it he was emphasizing his identification with our burdens and sorrows.
