    Default Posting - Browser Problems

Lately I have been having trouble posting. When I go to add a comment to a thread the comment page comes up ok. But I see no cursor. The only way that I know where the cursor is is by the last charater that I typed in. I can highlight a word, but I can't edit. If I try I find that the cursor just stays at the end of the current line. If I want to correct something in the middle of the line I have to back space to that position and then retype the line. Does anyone else have this problem. I just hit enter to move to the next line and It dropped the entire page down one line, but the (invisible) cursor stayed at the end of the line.

I have been using Firefox. I just switched to IE. It seems to work correctly.

Carl, I have had to leave Firefox after many years ... the latest iterations are just too buggy. I experienced the same problems as you; they were indeed a function of IE However, I cannot bring myself to go back to IE with all of its vulnerabilities; so I have begun using Chrome. It takes a while to get used to, but it works well.

Now however, as of Feb 1, Google is going to be linking ALL of its products so that what we do on one will be trackable across the others. They say this is to make a "better online experience" for us. Baloney. It is to make their product more marketable to investors and advertisers. And do not make the mistake of thinking that Gmail, Chrome, Google, etc, etc are their products. They aren't. WE are the product they sell. That's how they make money. A year ago Forbes estimated Google's valuation at $192 Billion. How can they be worth so much money when they give everything away? Because, of course, they make their money off those who use their products, not from the products. Knowing what we look for, what interests us, and thus being able to target us directly through email and online ads is worth that much money to investors and advertisers. It is analogous to the model used by broadcasting industry. The programs on your TV are not the product the broadcasters sell. They are merely the hooks by which to catch US ... because WE are the product they sell. That is why ratings are so important in the industry, and why a program with poor ratings (no matter how good it may be) is doomed. High ratings are a measurement of high viewer or listenership. And the more audience a program can attract to my station or network, the more money I can make off advertisers for access to those viewers/listeners/readers.

Anyway, I guess I am going to have to find a new browser. I note that Firefox is now offering a Beta of v10, which I might check out. I tried the v9 Beta and release candidate and they were still problematic. Opera has a good rep. For anyone who is interested, there is a good comparison of the Top Ten Browsers in 2012 at Internet Browser Software Review 2012 - TopTenREVIEWS . It will help you decide which one to use.

I'll let you know which one I pick.

Up to Firefox 3.5.6. Seem to have editing function. Version 3.4.X locked up on me when I tried to post the comment on the thread. So If I can post this one it will have complete functionality.

It worked. Guess for now I will use this version. I avoid Microsoft where I can because of their agressive pursuit of the whole world. Also try to stay away from Google because of Matt's above comment.
