What's going on?

Lately my laptop's been having some weird issues. It's a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC, and is about 3 years old, plus a few months.

-My DVD player's been skipping, and has stopped right in the middle of a movie the other day and forced me to reboot. I played two dvd's earlier tonight, and they worked fine, but on the third, it started skipping out on me near the end.

-Twice now my laptop has randomly shut down on me (just in one day).

-I tried running a virus scan to see if anything would come up, and I received an alert saying the scan was forced to shut down.

-Another issue is that it takes longer than it should for the laptop to boot up...

Is my laptop dying on me?

It sounds like something could be on the system forcing a shutdown...kinda like a virus, but I'm not 100% certain. I don't know if you know how to access all files on the computer...like the computer has a log somewhere of what programs have been downloaded or what documents were saved. I'd try to find that and if you find anything that has been added recently that you weren't aware of doing, delete it into the trash folder, then delete the contents of the trash folder. That may help!
