Default Cleaned up and Fixed my ailing computer.

Finally fixed my computer. I went to a Computer shop and bought a Computer Repair and Maintenance software package off the shelf (does a number of things not just registry clean up).

I can do most of what the package provides manually but it is good to have a program with all those maintenance and repair routines in one place. Saves me getting out my old DOS manual and having to remember what function did what and it's attributes.

Quicker and easier. So the PC is working OK now. Not like it used to when we first got it but that is due to age and we have loaded quite a few programmes now and they chew up Memory and CPU usage.

Need more RAM and faster processor but that isn't on the cards so fortunately having sorted out some of my PC issues means we can use this one for longer now.

Just curious, as I said; thanks...

I purchased a copy of System Mechanic Premium. I found it better than freeware packages like CCleanup which I have used. The main reason I bought it is to clean up my Start Up Register. It has lots of other handy program functions that I used to do through other Windows like Cleaning up Temporary Files you get loaded down from the internet. However it also looks for and Junk files that are no longer required and deletes them as well.

You can let the package do the delete or repairs automatically or get the package to Analyse the computer first and list what it is going to delete or repair and then you can pick and choose. Having a background in computing I did the pick and choose method. However, I had so many files and errors listed I ended up allowing the package to do a bulk delete/repair as it was too much trouble to go through the lists one by one (I've neglected my PC for a while now). Nothing bad happened it did it's thing and it all worked out OK.

The best thing is that I don't have to go out and do some housework for about 15mins while the PC boots up. It now boots up in about 3 to 5 mins (I have a few things in my Startup routine which I really didn't want to remove but I did disable a few).

You can backup to their website that is one of the program functions so you can have a safety net just in case and the program has a Restore Backup or to Default feature I thought was very handy. Didn't need to use them but nice to know they are available.

Pretty easy to use. Take some time to get familiar with the functions and menu options first and they do have a Startup Tutorial to help you.

I've used packages like this before in my work and I was confindent to get into it straight away but I do recommend the Tutorial to get familiar with their features and functions first.
