What does a zippered folder symbol mean?

I recently downloaded an update to software I have on my computer. After a couple of weeks it quit working. I can't get into the program anymore and now it has an icon with a folder with a zipper on it. I paid for the software. I'm wondering if I accidentally downloaded the trial version and if it expired. Is that what the icon looks like when trial programs expire? Or is there some other possible explanation?

It means that it is a "zipped" file. In other words, it is compressed and needs a program like win-zip to uncompress ("unzip") it.

If you have Microsoft Windows in almost all versions you should be able to take you mouse and place it over the zipped folder and then right click. This should display a menu with a list of functions. At the top you will see the choice to OPEN the file but if you look down further on the menu list you will see the option to "Extract All" that will be the Winzip function. Click on this if you have it and it will do an Unzip for you. You will have to answer a few questions as it does this process but you should be able to do that easily enough. The process is automatic and leads you through all the steps to Unzip the file.

If you do not have the "Extract All" option on the menu lis that appears you obviously do not have Winzip installed on your computer. You can get it for free from Microsoft Windows if you have the Windows operating system.
