ROME, FEB. 11, 2008 (Zenit.org).- Five cardinals have sent a letter inviting prelates worldwide to join them in petitioning Benedict XVI to declare a fifth Marian dogma they said would "proclaim the full Christian truth about Mary."

The text, released last week, includes the petition that asks the Pope to proclaim Mary as "the Spiritual Mother of All Humanity, the co-redemptrix with Jesus the redeemer, mediatrix of all graces with Jesus the one mediator, and advocate with Jesus Christ on behalf of the human race."

The signatories of the letter are five of the six cardinal co-sponsors of the 2005 International Symposium on Marian Coredemption, held in Fatima: Cardinal Telesphore Toppo, archbishop of Ranchi, India; Cardinal Luis Aponte Martínez, retired archbishop of San Juan, Puerto Rico; Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil, major archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly, India; Cardinal Riccardo Vidal, archbishop of Cebu, Philippines; and Cardinal Ernesto Corripio y Ahumada, retired archbishop of Mexico City.

Cardinal Edouard Gagnon, who died last August, was the sixth cardinal co-sponsor of the 2005 conference. He was the president of the Pontifical Council of the Family from 1974 until he resigned in 1990.

The secretariat of the five cardinal co-patrons released the English translation of the letter, which includes a translation and the original Latin text of the "votum," or petition, that was formulated in 2005 and presented formally to the Pope by Cardinal Telesphore in 2006.

The petition states: "We believe the time opportune for a solemn definition of clarification regarding the constant teaching of the Church concerning the Mother of the Redeemer and her unique cooperation in the work of Redemption, as well as her subsequent roles in the distribution of grace and intercession for the human family."

Ecumenism

Pointing to ecumenical concerns, the petition continues: "It is of great importance [...] that people of other religious traditions receive the clarification on the highest level of authentic doctrinal certainty that we can provide, that the Catholic Church essentially distinguishes between the sole role of Jesus Christ, divine and human Redeemer of the world, and the unique though secondary and dependent human participation of the Mother of Christ in the great work of Redemption."

The text adds that the move would be "the ultimate expression of doctrinal clarity at the service of our Christian and non-Christian brothers and sisters who are not in communion with Rome."

In a press statement released along with the letter, the cardinal co-sponsors reiterated the same ecumenical concern and said the proclamation of a fifth Marian dogma would be a "service of clarification to other religious traditions and to proclaim the full Christian truth about Mary."

The statement added, "This initiative also intends to start an in-depth worldwide dialogue on Mary's role in salvation for our time. [...] Should this effort prove successful, a proclamation would constitute a historical event for the Church as only the fifth Marian dogma defined in its 2,000-year history."

Cardinal Aponte Martínez, one of the cardinal co-patrons said: "I believe the time is now for the papal definition of the relationship of the Mother of Jesus to the each one of us, her earthly children, in her roles as co-redemptrix, mediatrix of all graces and advocate.

"To solemnly proclaim Mary as the spiritual mother of all peoples is to fully and officially recognize her titles, and consequently to activate, to bring to new life the spiritual, intercessory functions they offer the Church for the new evangelization, and for humanity in our serious present world situation."

You know you read about the many Mary apparitions and messages including the Miracle of the Sun from the so called Lady of Fatima in 1917 but in her messages she many times comes across as though she is representing Jesus Christ himself and not Satan.

So my question is if this Lady is all part of the big deception why would Satan have her even mention praying to Jesus or ask us to pray for forgiveness and be a good Christian if this was truly of Satan? Doesn't that work against Satan's whole agenda here?

In order to preserve us from disaster and threatening war, Our Lady gave a powerful prayer in Amsterdam which she called “her prayer” (May 31, 1955). Our Lady tells us something very important in relation to this, “From degeneration comes disaster. From degeneration comes war. Through my prayer you shall ask that this be staved off from the world.” (May 31, 1955)

During the first message, given on March 25, 1945, Our Lady already referred to her prayer, but it was not for another six years that Our Lady actually dictated the prayer to the visionary on February 11, 1951. During that vision Our Lady joined her hands, directed her gaze upward, and solemnly began to pray:

“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Father, send now Your Spirit over the earth. Let the Holy Spirit live in the hearts of all nations, that they may be preserved from degeneration, disaster and war. May the Lady of All Nations, who once was Mary, be our Advocate. Amen.”

Alone the fact that Mary dictated her prayer during the vision of the Second Vatican Council is a clear allusion to the significance of the prayer for the Church and the world.

The prayer is directed to Jesus Christ, the Lord, and implores the sending of the Holy Spirit into the hearts of all mankind. Our Lady herself said, “Let the people pray this short, simple prayer every day. This prayer is short and simple, so that everyone in this quick and modern world can pray it. It is given in order to call down the True Spirit upon the world.” (Sept. 20, 1951)

I am an EX Catholic and saved by Jesus's grace alone but just wish I had answers to these questions as it often throws me for a loop! Especially in my witnessing to other Catholics. Nearly 90% of my relatives are Catholic as well my father, 2 sisters and brother. That's a whole other story.

You are (by this statement) assuming that it is Mary speaking. In actuality it is a demon spirit speaking because as we know Mary is dead and cannot speak to us.

Perhaps your confusion lies in not renouncing your old Catholic beliefs. I mean no offense by that...it must be very difficult and we all come to Christ with much baggage.

The RC believe that Mary is the Mother of God and that she alone is their Advocate/Mediator. She is NOT. Jesus Christ told to come thru HIM. Mary was nothing more than a basket. She died. She was not taken up to Heaven. Her remains are still on hear today.

Saved, Jesus warned us that in the last days there would be deceptions so great that IF IT WERE POSSIBLE even the elect themselves would be deceived. The verse is Matthew 24;24— "False Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect."

The Holy Spirit through Paul also told us that: "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." The gospel preached by Mary ... saints ... other visions ... indeed the RCC ... is another gospel. It is not the gospel that Paul preached: salvation by faith alone in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the Cross.

The only reason I worded it like this, is because that it what the spirit of Satan is trying to come across as...Our Lady and so I left it as that so people (especially former and current RC 's) would know what I was referring to.

Just wanted to clear that up. It's not that I am giving her any weight.

I just thought any demon would not VERBALLY mention the word "Jesus". But then again there are many false prophets where this comes off of their tongues daily. In this message again from the so called Our Lady for example...

This is a biggie and I could see how Roman Catholics could be tricked into thinking that it has to be a message inspired by the "one true God" otherwise she would not encourage prayer to the Holy Spirit, because in fact encouraging praying to the Holy Spirit might expose these demons to the beleiver. Again that is why it so scarey to anyone who buys into this.

I think what also confuses me is that you also read about modern day exorcisms performed by priests and I don't quite understand why would Satan uses a priest and let them cast out the demons in Jesus's name, if they are NO better than HIM??? (working against Jesus, although many of then just don't realize it)

I can truly understand given my previous Catholic upbringing.....Catholic school and everything else why I was so brainwashed into beleiving this stuff and why it took me so long to come to grips with al of this.

What also bothered me greatly and still does is how I wold see priests drinking alcohol, smoking and promoting Night at the Casino bingo events in our area and could not come to grips EITHER with how a man who was suppose to be so HOLY could be seen as good representative/stand in for God? A mere man no less, who the RCC felt we needed to confess our sins to no less!

I have also watched the Messages from Heaven DVD and have the book A Woman Rides the Beast which is also most informative and opened my eyes as did the Holy Spirit. I do beleive the RCC is a cult. In fact I had my dad, a staunch Roman Catholic watch the DVD and he said the 1st part was wonderful but the last part was total heresy!!!!!!!!! Talk about feeling discouraged.... I mean this spelled it out so well.

But these are questions that still come up in my mind and sure I will be asked this at some point by my father and other relatives.

1Jo 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

The anointing in us is the Holy Spirit which abides in us and teaches us leading us into all "truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ".

Trust in the Holy Spirit of God to teach you what is "truth". Read the Word of God (Bible) not what man writes.

Amen to all you said, I'm concerned for the majority of my family to turn away from the RCC teaching. The pope that died not to long ago had his final words recorded and then they were played on TV they were very low and hard to understand but he said " Mary please carry my soul to heaven"

I think I get what you are asking now. Why would Satan or a demon refer to Jesus as who He is?

They know who He is and they seek to replicate Him so that we will follow Satan rather than God.

(Mar 1:23-24) And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

Satan is not a figment of our imagination he is working in the earth to destroy and kill. He has duped millions into believing that these apparitions are of God thus leading people astray and away from the word of God.

There is no doubt that these visions or whatever they are speak but they are demonic manifestations.

The Rcc is a Babylon...I mean,I was born in Rome and raised Rcc and I went trhu all the paraphernalia of the cultic "church",I am an expert...no kidding...my suggestion is that you read prayerfully the Word,read a bit of John gospel everyday if you can and then Romans...and the,I mean there are lots of reading plans for the Bible,but John and Romans are fundamentally to make us understand Salvation according to God and not "churches" and various clergy....
