    Default Worst gospel singer... EVER!

    I wasn't sure where to put this one. I suppose it should have gone under "Music" but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Hang on to your hats, folks!



    God does say make a joyful noise unto the Lord. Well this was certainly noisy ... and joyful. Bless this pastor's heart for wanting to praise the Lord. Jesus, please forgive me for laughing ... and for posting this so others might laugh. My only defense is Your Word: Proverbs 15:13,15; 17:22.

    Oh, my! So funny, so uplifting, definitely joyous and

    I wasn't blessed with a singing voice (imagine a cat being hit with a bag of nails) so I sing softly at church. But after hearing this pastor belting it out, I'll continue roaring like a mouse

    Good call, Matt! I can see why you placed him in the joke section---seeing as being a Christian board, we don't have a "Terror" forum.

    On a side note, I used to know someone with the same kind of "talent" as this man. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to show the "appreciation" that he deserved.

    P.S. I didn't understand why the pianist was playing at such a fast pace. I realized later that she was trying, unsuccessfully, to get out of the way of the train wreck...

    Wow...and I thought I sang bad. Poor guy....I wish I could've seen the faces of the people in the audience!!! I wonder if they invited him back??? LOL!!!

    My wife says I can't sing, now I can show her this but she might say he sings better than me so I don't know whether I should show her or not.

    I listened to this using headphones....DON'T DO THAT!

    But as a side note, my oldest son grabbed one earbud when the joyful noise started, and when it was finally over he said, 'that was a little pitchy mommy'

    He was trying to sing the song, like a famous tenor (Brian Free) in Southern gospel music sings it, but the guy can't sing tenor honestly. Bless his heart!

    OK, I can't carry a tune in a bucket, but all of a sudden feel I may be able to sing.

    All I could think was if this was an audition in front of the American Idol bunch.

    Words failed me last night, but the Spirit had some for me this morning.

    Okay, this man doesn't seem to have any musical talent, but the Lord doesn't care about whether this soul can carry a tune or not. He cares about the heart, and for what this gentleman lacks in vocal aptitude, he more than makes up for in a desire to serve the Lord. How many instead of this simply sit there and say nothing in either song, word or deed?

    As a matter of fact, we are told to "shout joyfully to the Lord":


    "O sing to the LORD a new song,
    For He has done wonderful things,
    His right hand and His holy arm have gained the victory for Him.

    The LORD has made known His salvation;
    He has revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations.

    He has remembered His lovingkindness and His faithfulness to the house of Israel;
    All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

    Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth;
    Break forth and sing for joy and sing praises.

    Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre,
    With the lyre and the sound of melody.

    With trumpets and the sound of the horn
    Shout joyfully before the King, the LORD.

    Let the sea roar and all it contains,
    The world and those who dwell in it.

    Let the rivers clap their hands,
    Let the mountains sing together for joy

    Before the LORD, for He is coming to judge the earth;
    He will judge the world with righteousness
    And the peoples with equity."
    (Psalm 98:1-9, NASB)

    And scripture reminds us:

    "For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness." (Romans 12:3-8, NASB, emphasis mine)

    "Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions. One person has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only. The one who eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one who eats, for God has accepted him. Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand." (Romans 14: 1-4, NASB, emphasis mine)

    Yes, the second passage is in regards to what a person eats, but the basis is clear: if this man cannot carry a note but is singing as best he can to the Lord, then who are we to laugh at him? Are our own "talents" all that tremendous in comparison to what the Lord can do? Surely the sweetest voices and most soothing rhythms in this world are but the screeching of fingernails down a chalkboard compared to the hymns and melodies sung by the heavenly host before the Lord. Yet, what sounds the sweetest to Jesus Christ is not the best vocalizations or chords from an instrument, but the words sung from an honest heart that truly loves God and seeks to serve Him.


    That being the case, this man has already out-sung many.


    And frankly: I don't give "American Idol" much credit to begin with (the fact that they use the word "Idol" in their title should be a clue).


    Lord, please forgive my harsh judgment of this man last night: I didn't understand, but now I do. I repent of my hardheartedness.

    Robert, Thank You for posting the scriptures.

    I wasn't making fun of him for what he was doing, though I imagine even he would get a chuckle after hearing himself. The double time piano playing and the water break were funny to me though.
    The only bad Gospel singer is the one who doesn't sing or make a joyful shout of praise to the Lord at all. Try as I might, a joyful noise is about all I can do. I think most of us were reflecting on our own lack of singing talent, I sure was.

    Oh, I wasn't laughing at his performance, even as a person with moderate singing ability, I could NEVER get up and sing in front of the church. (I sing my praises just fine in my van, in the assembly, and at home) His conviction was inspiring. I wonder though, he cut off his own performance at the end, but sang a final note.....maybe he knew his talent didn't match his desire to worship the Lord?

    I did laugh at my son's comment because it was so out of character for him to be so blunt.
