Default If a cats eat your hamburger, don't call 911

    The Canadian Press
Date: Thursday Dec. 29, 2011 10:51 AM ET

CHATHAM, Ont. — Hamburger-eating cats, video game disputes and not being allowed into a bar are not emergencies.

That may seem obvious, but those are just three of the many 911 calls made in the Chatham, Ont., area this year.

Chatham-Kent police have released their third annual list of "Top 10 Silly Calls" of the year in an effort to remind people to call 911 only if they need emergency assistance.

Among the calls deemed not an emergency was one dispatchers received from a woman whose cats ate her hamburger -- she wanted another one.

Also not an emergency was a couple's video-game argument in which the man wanted to play Xbox and the woman wanted to play Nintendo Wii.

Const. Michael Pearce says he suspects alcohol was a factor in some of the top 10 calls.

There are some around here who might consider cats eating their burger as an excellent reason to call 911, if only to prevent the untimely demise of kitties.
Ephesians 5:18 (New King James Version)

18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,

I Come To The Garden Alone Hymn

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
    And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
    None other has ever known.

My three cats and and my hamburger do not mix. Still I don't think I'll be calling 911 because of this. Wow, I can't think of a bigger waste of the police force and ot emergency crew's time. But anyway, I think there are many people who seem to forget exactly what 911 is for. I think one of the funniest things I've ever heard is called Blondestar, as in Onstar. Woman "Locked herself inside her car." and was freaking out. She wanted to know how she was supposed to get out.

Don't people get fined for nuisance calls to 911?

If they called Australian emergency service these callers would have been fined. You risk jail for false emergencies in Australia.

They do if the caller is a frequent abuser. My daughter at age 1, pressed the "panic" button on my mom's home security system. Even though we called the alarm company to say it was false alarm, the police, ambulance, and fire truck all came out. After much questioning of my kids, my mom got billed for the ambulance service. $800.
