    Default The Edward's Neighbor

Elizabeth and John Edwards has been sooooooo strong and brave throughout her ordeal(s). They're not scared of death, but a "rabid rabid Republican" living across the street makes them tremble in fear:

RALEIGH, N.C. - Elizabeth Edwards says she is scared of the "rabid, rabid Republican" who owns property across the street from her Orange County home - and she doesn't want her kids going near the gun-toting neighbor.

Edwards, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, particularly recalls the time neighbor Monty Johnson brought out a gun while chasing workers investigating a right of way off his property. The Edwards family has yet to meet Johnson in person.

"I wouldn't be nice to him anyway," Edwards said in an interview. "I don't want my kids anywhere near some guy who when he doesn't like somebody, the first thing he does is pull a gun out. It scares the business out of me."

But Johnson defended the occasion he brandished a gun, saying those on his land didn't have the proper approval.

"I use the gun for protection, and I considered that an appropriate time," Johnson said. "Sometimes you have to take drastic measures."

Edwards views Johnson as a "rabid, rabid Republican" who refuses to clean up his "slummy" property just to spite her family, whose lavish 28,000-square-foot estate is nearby on 102 wooded acres.

He's got a "Go Giuliani 2008" sign on his property, they'd really freak if it was a real Republican's sign.

This is what I posted on my local news' website when they put up this article:

I can't believe she'd publicly complain about a private individual like that. She should have kept whatever was between them just that, not called him out so everyone can form a negative opinion of the man who's probably a lot nicer than the Edwardses. I agree with [previous poster]NCTeacher that these are not people we want running the country, people who "wouldn't be nice to him anyway" because he is different from them and doesn't have as much money. I never thought his campaign had a chance anyway.

    That's funny
    Republicans are wide-eyed gun slingers.
That goes to show you how out of touch or sheltered they really are about the 'right'
Or they are just exaggerating to dupe the ill-informed.

Let's hope Fred Thompson decides to run! Can you imagine her blanching every time she looks at his yard with a Fred Thompson sign in it? I can't believe she would say that she wouldn't be nice to the guy if she met him. What a snobby thing to say.
    Are we there yet?

Finally, that neighbor replied. At least those trial lawyers shot up the value of this guy's property:

    http://www.newsobserver.com/114/story/562899.html

Monty Johnson was heading home Monday with a cooler full of catfish when he learned his new neighbor had turned him into a minor celebrity.

The first calls on his cell phone came from two lawyers asking to represent him in a slander case. Elizabeth Edwards, they told him, had called him a "rabid, rabid Republican." That wasn't all. The Democratic presidential candidate's wife also told The Associated Press she didn't want her children near Johnson because, she said, he once pulled a gun on workers investigating a right of way on his property.

Johnson, a 55-year-old retired landscaper with arthritic knees, said he's not interested in suing.

"I'd just like to know why she has such hard feelings to me," he said. "They say they're for poor people."
In essenc, the neighbor still think the Edwards are snobs. IMO, he's right.

Yup, next the Edwards will be saying, "That Johnson fellow is a fundamentalist, right-wing, Christian. He always runs around with his gun scaring people off of his property. Something must be done about these people."

The really sad thing is that this guy will have to move because of the increase in property value due to the Edwards building. If dear ole John really thought he could do something about the two Americas he is creating maybe he should start with his neighbor.

He showed a lot more class with this statement than what she showed.

IMHO, John Edwards is a rich, snotty, snooty politician that talks out of both sides of his mouth that will say and do anything to get ahead. I say he has to move to my town, live on the wages that are being paid here and then tell me he's "for the poor people"!
