But my point in writing this today is NOT to inflame, but the opposite. To ask something of all of you. Something difficult, given the circumstances we are in, and the situation we are faced with in this time of decision.
I want to ask all of you to remember who you are in Christ.
Paul tells us this:
"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." ( Romans 12:9-21, NIV, emphasis mine)
I'm not asking any of you to LIKE what is going on, or to like it should the bill pass in either house. But we need to remember that our promise is NOT in a man on earth, but in our Lord in heaven; that our hope is not in this dying world, but in Jesus Christ. By necessity, this world is passing away; we have the promise of a better one. What I am asking though is that we don't go off-kilter and ruin our witness by saying things we may regret later. The Lord has all of this in hand, and however the vote turns out, we need to keep in mind that our lives are in the care and bound by the faithfulness of the one from Galilee.
Soon, we are not going to be here; we will be with Him in the clouds, never to be separated again. Until then, we still have people to reach in this world. We don't want to demonstrate to them that we lack faith in our lord to see us through hard times or difficult circumstances. It may get rough from this point on, but we are not alone in this.
For if God is for us, who can be against us?
Thank you for your attention, and i bid you all peace.
YBIC,
Robert
