Adrian mentioned northern Baptists in another thread and I thought some explanation would be appropriate.
I haven't attended any church regularly in many, many years and some brothers here had mentioned Calvary Chapel as being particularly good. The nearest ones are 60 miles in one direction and about 80 miles in another, so they're not exactly in the neighborhood, although I have attended both and liked them both equally.
We live in a tiny town but with a fair number of churches although I'd never heard anything particularly good about any of them. A friend mentioned that he used to attend the northern Baptist church, which of course piqued my curiosity. We have two Baptist churches in town, a Southern Baptist and a Baptist, so to differentiate between the two, he refers to the 'regular' Baptist as the 'northern' Baptist.
I've attended this church for the last two weeks and it's beginning to grow on me.
I recognized a few people there, although I'm not particularly friendly with any of them yet. They do a couple of things there that I'd never seen before in church. They have an American flag and at the beginning of the service we say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag
, then the Pledge of Allegiance to the Bible. Also, toward the end of the service when we celebrated Holy Communion, they delivered the bread and juice to us in the pews rather than us going up to the alter.
I've been sensing for a while the need for human face-to-face contact and the church may be what I was looking for.
