That's sad. One comment told of his remarks at an atheist convention about how his cancer didn't turn him towards God. What a waste.

How sad. How very sad. He does indeed see his mistake now...

    I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge;
I will tell of all your deeds.

This is indeed sad. Only the Lord knows the heart of this proud man. We have no way of knowing what he "called out" in his last moments in private. If he called out to God, certainly no one would advertise it.

OH, I read this just now and I'm shocked with awful sadness and horror. All the times praying and hoping the Lord would have mercy and save that man. I'm so broken

I have this HUGE sigh and just shake my head back and forth.

    ABC News' Joel Siegel:
Hitchens became the public face of atheism. Critics assumed his cancer diagnosis, in 2010, would lead Hitchens to relent and embrace God. But he remained a proud non-believer to the very end, as he made clear in an early October 2011 speech at the annual Atheist Alliance of America convention in Houston, as he accepted the Freethinker of the Year Award. His body gaunt from the ravages of cancer, Hitchens said, "We have the same job we always had: to say that there are no final solutions; there is no absolute truth; there is no supreme leader; there is no totalitarian solution that says if you would just give up your freedom of inquiry, if you would just give up, if you would simply abandon your critical faculties, the world of idiotic bliss can be yours."

I have little pity for this man. He was a champion of the lie that only the atheist can be capable of critical thinking. He had every advantage and opportunity to intelligently investigate the truth of Christ yet not only refused but also personally and deliberately led who-knows how many people down his same chosen path to destruction.

Generally I do feel remorse and pity for those who die outside of Grace. But not those in positions of influence who work relentlessly to lead others to hell.

There you have the liberal atheist mind. The God we know loves our pursuit of Him. He loves the inquiring mind and encourages us to search the endless depths of Him. The above quote is the best proof the god he thought he knew was a fabrication of his diseased mind.

    Heartbreaking.

I listened to him being interviewed on radio today (no, not from hell. It was tape from an old broadcast!) Since I missed the beginning of the interview I wondered who this atheist was. He sounded so smug and superior and was noticeably condescending in his manner toward Paul Edwards. He was primed for argument, and I thought to myself, man this guy really loves to try and debunk the concept of God. Then I heard Paul refer to him by name and it all made sense. I know for a fact that every bit of smugness and superiority is gone from him now and he has embarked into an eternity in which he will suffer forever with the thought that it lay within his power to have chosen heaven, but for his ego and his perverted intellect.

I can't imagine how his brother is feeling. One who found the truth and sees someone close to him (the last few months anyway) go without accepting the truth.

I know that this is a sober thread talking about a very somber situation but matt, you almost caused me to
    choke on my popcorn.

Having said that. Yes is sad indeed.

I knew about his brother, and I know he must be saddened by this. Frankly it IS sad that he died lost. I know his brother loved him. How could he not, this was his brother. One of my brothers passed at the age of 38, and he had LOTS of health problems. I found some solace when one of my uncles who is a pastor gave part of the eulogy and in it said he had talked to my brother shortly before he died, and told us all there that he had been saved. I cried tears of joy at that, and the consolation that I would have the chance to see him again some day. We didn't always get along, and I truly regret the way some things were before he passed. I do miss him though.
I am saddened that Hitchens continued on the same path. I am generally saddened for someone's family if nothing else when they lose a loved one. Am I happy Hitchen's dead? No way, because now he will NEVER have the opportunity to reconsider he did have to come to know our saviour. We are commanded to love, and I thought that included our enemies, and or people who might hate us. But yes he did make his own choices.
I don't have to wonder too much how Richard Dwakins is likely going to respond, if he hasn't already. I thought the two of them were friends, and I can only imagine though what he might say. He has never been one to shy away from controversial comments. I ran across one site and atheists in it were talking about Hitchens about his speech in Texas, and how he hadn't given into religion. It still makes me sad that so many people are filled with so much hate.

I read about Hitchen's death and it really saddens me. I've been reading several articles (from secular sources),I also read
reader's comments regarding Hitchen's death. There were too many people praising him for his "brilliance and intellect"
all the while putting down the comments posted by Christians accusing them of judging. What all these athiest posters don't
understand is that God gave Hitchens his "brilliance and intellect", but instead of using the gift to glorify the Creator, he used
it to glorify himself and blaspheme God. Many of those who don't know God always think it is God who sends unbelievers to hell,
when it's the unbeliever his or herself who condemns themselves to Hell. In my opinion, Hitchens wasted his life blaspheming God
and now he has to face the consequences of his actions. There is still hope that his impending death may have caused him to turn
at the last minute, but he publicly stated that despite having advanced stages of cancer, he will not embrace God, even to the grave.
Looking at pictures of Hitchens, he looked like he was an angry person. Sad, life wasted!

I'm kinda on your side. I feel remorse for those who die lost. For those in positions of influence who diliberately lead many to hell, then it's hard to feel remorse for them. Hitchins has poisoned the mind of my brother-in-law (and many thousands) to the point where he gets confrontational when I try to witness to him. I've put him in the "too stubborn to change" category and pray often to God for his salvation. I hope my brother-in-law comes to know the Lord's peace and salvation before it's too late.

There, but for the grace of God, go I.

Joh 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Joh 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
