In an on-line game that I play, someone posted this on Monday. (I realize that most of you won't see it until Tuesday, but I just now have gotten it copied to you).
For those of you who might not be aware, it was 100 years ago today that William D. Boyce incorporated one of the greatest youth leadership programs the world has ever known: the Boy Scouts of America. It all started from a chance meeting in England, where Lord Baden Powell had started Scouting for the youth in England. Boyce was on a business trip and became lost in the fog. A young man stepped forward and asked to assist him find his destination. Boyce accepted the offered help. Upon reaching his destination, how offered the young man a tip, which was customary at that time. The boy declined the tip, saying that he was just doing a good turn. Boyce was so intrigued by this that he decided to find out more about the Scouting program. After doing so, he came back to America and started the Boy Scouts of America. To all Boy Scout volunteers and officials, and etc, Happy (Belated) Birthday, and thanks for your service to young men! And, to the BSA, thank you for maintaining moral standards for your Scouts!
The Scouting program exists in almost every country in the world now and is the largest youth organization in history, teaching leadership skills, self reliance, outdoor skills, and ethical decision making. I am proud to be a member of such a fine organization. Thank you to Baden Powell for starting the program.
Happy Birthday to the Boy Scouts of America.
