Default Getting your children to read the Bible

I have two boys 15 and 10. I can't get them to read their Bibles. I have read to them since they were little from a children Bible. Now that they are older I have been reading before they go the bed - out of the adult Bible. I started in John and we read a Psalms. I have taught them that they need a relationship (reading and praying everyday). I know that they sometimes pray but I know they don't read. They are really not into reading anything for that matter either.

I used to be a Missionette (any one here?) at the church I grew up in. You were required to read the whole Bible in that. Royal Rangers was the boys group. The church we are attending now - as far as I know - doesn't require you read. I had to memorize Bible scriptures, but churches don't do that anymore? ALso, I have noticed when I was growing up we all had Sunday school books that we studied before Sunday church, my kids don't have that either? Does the church not do the things anymore. Do your kids read the Bible? The church I attend it just NOW going to start when your memorize a Bible verse/bring your Bible to church/and bring a friend - you get a prize from a "chuckie cheese" type store? I don't know if that would work are not.

We don't have AWANA or any type of program for the kids. I mean they have a Wednesday night class - but I think most of it is spent playing. I go to a CoG church with about 600-1000. You would think a church that big would have something?
    Just pondering, I guess.
Every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord!

The best thing to do is to talk to them, so that they fully understand who Jesus is. As a teen (17) I thought church as a kid was SO boring! The best solution is to go and get the Jesus movie. Or maybe even The Passion. I understand that they are both dramatic movies for a child to watch. Since their both boys that obviously makes them visual learners. lol Sit down pop the Passion in, tell them what its about b4 you press play, and tell them you will answer their questions after the movie. and of course pray.

Start your own youth group for kids in the neighborhood if you don't have anything like that at the church, or get ahold of some of the parents at church and see if they would like to be part of one. You setting the example of spending time in The Word will catch on with them, but this is an interesting age. Pray, cover them in prayer, read Psalms 91 over them as often as He brings it to mind so they have His protection over them. Entrust them to God, friend, and ask him what He would have you do.
