Mexico drug wars: 49 headless, dismembered bodies found dumped along highway

Forty-nine headless, dismembered bodies were found along a stretch of highway in Mexico on Sunday.

The mutilated bodies "scattered in a pool of blood"—some with their hands and feet "hacked off," according to the Associated Press—were discovered by local authorities on the edge of the town of San Juan on a road that connects Monterrey to the Texas border.

The bodies were thought to have been dumped there by a drug cartel, authorities said. A welcome sign near the killing field was filled with graffiti with the message, "100% Zeta."

Zetas is one of the two largest drug cartels in Mexico. The other is the Sinaloa Cartel.

"This continues to be violence between criminal groups," Jorge Domene, a state security spokesman, said in a news conference on Sunday. "This is not an attack against the civilian population."

But the escalating violence between the two cartels has resulted in a recent rash of symbolic slayings.

On April 17, according to the AP, mutilated bodies of 14 men were left in a minivan in downtown Nuevo Laredo. On May 5, the bodies of 23 people were found, some hanging from a bridge and others decapitated and dumped near city hall. On May 9, 18 dismembered bodies were discovered outside Guadalajara, Mexico's second-largest city.

Nuevo Laredo and Monterrey are considered Zetas territory, while Guadalajara has been controlled by the Sinaloa Cartel.

In September, a Sinaloa drug gang dumped 35 bodies in Veracruz, Mexico. In August, a Zetas attack on a Monterrey casino left 52 dead.

Domene said Sunday's victims—43 men and 6 women—would be hard to identify because of "the lack of heads, hands and feet."

Since 2006, when Mexico's President Felipe Calderon announced a crackdown on cartels, more than 47,500 people have been killed in drug-related violence.

Just like in the days of Noah, filling the earth. How much worse will it be during the tribulation! yikes! I wonder if the current Attorney General of the United States actually feels any sting when he reads stuff like this...God is watching and taking note. He will repay.

Horrible how the love of money and power has made these people into worse than animals. They will think differently when it's time to meet the maker.

More beheadings in the news these days by Roman Catholic drug lords and in the past by Islamic terrorists in Bosnia decapitating Serbian prisoners. This is a picture of what the tribulation will be like for those who come to Christ after the rapture. (Revelation 20:4) Its so important people come to Christ now and avoid the beheading in the future tribulation.

The way border patrol members (current and retired) tell it; that entire area is one giant nightmare. I hear the occasional media outlet report on a story and the usual parlance comes into play "it is like a war zone here!"; "Why do these kids carry narcotics?"; "Why doesn't the Mexican government do something?"

    1. It IS a war zone along that border...both sides. You don't have to many search engine queries to realize that this stuff spilled over into the U.S. a long time ago AND has not abated one bit.

    2. Kids are drafted into the services of these cartels because (A) both parents/immediate family are dead or in jail; (B) However horrific the images and the job...it beats $1.50/hour doing whatever else is available; (C) The choice was a bullet or go to work for the cartel. The chilling thing about this element is that there are a fair number that go on to become assassins for the cartels. As horrible as this is to contemplate...it does speak volumes about how far one can sink without Christ.

    3. Corruption and intent are the reasons that the Mexican government does not do anything "strong" about this problem. However, I would argue that in the last decade the cartels have grown strong enough that the Mexican government knows that a concerted campaign to roust the cartels would produce carnage they are not willing to pay for. Subsequently they engage in operations that are mission critical for them. Mission critical for them is protecting those areas and assets that the top 10% work with/on/around and enjoy the fruits of. This would include their own silicone valley; natural resources that garner international trade (e.g. oil/natural gas) and so on. Corruption...well that exists everywhere and when there are narco dollars to be had...there are plenty who will take them and that has a ripple effect as well.

The sad truth is that this has ceased to be a "law enforcement" problem for some time. It has become a national security issue and that means it is a military issue. I'm not saying this because I am blood thirsty or that I want to see yet another war for America or for anyone else. I'm saying this because the information that is available, STRONGLY suggests that this cannot be resolved by serving warrants or conducting some 'precision' tactical raids on rural and urban areas in the hope that we grab some leaders that can be charged - prosecuted - AND CONVICTED on narcotics and/or murder charges. You now have entire counties in southern Arizona that are considered cartel owned or cartel contested. The point is that these cartels seek power - influence - and money...the same as any nation state...BUT they operate outside of these conventional trappings until it suits their purposes. This is a giant mess and the solutions are not ones that current leaders are prepared to entertain.

As Christians, it is tough to watch folks who are in dire need of the gospel having at each other with such savagery that it pulls at our very fiber. However, it also falls into our understanding of just how depraved a world devoid of Christ can and will be given that the great restrainer will be pulled from the world, for a period, at some point. for the folks caught up in this whirlwind of insanity.

In the mean time and while the borders are wide open, your federal "government" TSA has fondled 5,000 persons--keeping you safe from 80 year old terrorists in wheelchairs.
