A local father who captured worldwide attention after posting a YouTube rant about his daughter is now making local city leaders mad.

Tommy Jordan, from Stanly County, got mad after his daughter complained about doing chores on her Facebook page.

In the video, Jordan pulls out a gun and shoots his daughter’s laptop.

The video received more than 21 million views in four days.

“Pay you for chores?” Jordan said in the video. “Are you out of your mind?”
The Daily reported in a Facebook post on Saturday, the former Marine, wrote that Child Protective Services officials came to his home in Stanly Co., and interviewed him and his daughter — separately — after viewers of the video called with concerns about his actions.
He said the police also stopped by.
Neither authority decided to pursue anything against Jordan.
“The police by the way said ‘Kudos, sir,’ ” Jordan wrote. “How’s about those apples? Didn’t expect THAT when you called the cops did you?”

Jordan also made reference to the Albemarle Police Department approving his acts, but the police chief said Jordan does not live in the city limits.

The chief said it is unfortunate that the media is identifying Jordan as a resident.

The city manager told the Stanly News and Press Jordan’s comments about the department do not reflect the opinion of the police department.

Interesting story. The father seems to be doing the very thing he opposes. I agree though, that many on Facebook and the likes, are too open and loose with their thoughts. My sister unfriended her own granddaughter and demanded that her daughters do the same or she would also unfriend them. They did what she asked. Facebook can be a good thing, but often, many delude themselves into thinking they are being very social, when in fact they often are not. At my youngest daughters baby shower, a couple of years ago, there were teens sitting at a table. They didn't communicate with each other, but rather, were on their phones posting to Facebook about what they were doing.

Notice how immature our culture is these days--many adults included? And a lot of this stupidity is promoted and 'glorified' via TV shows and even the commercials (I ask my wife when I see these commercials, "Are they saying only idiots buy their products?"). Everyone has to act like some 40 year old immature child--like some dimwit--as if this is a behavior to be admired or it's "fun" to to be shallow and vacant. I mean, come on! Cartoons for "adults"?? These childish behaviors are what you'd expect from a six year old.

I just can not imagine my grandparents or even my parents embracing such childishness. They were neither half-wits or morons. In fact, I can imagine my grandfather re-arranging one's nose for acting moronic in his presence.

The fact that people are free to post the most disgusting, untrue and dangerous things on Facebook is sad really. Then if someone posts something about Biblical Christianity, well we can't have that. Have different moral views from the "new" morality? You might get shut down. As if morals are really supposed to change... I've been part and and I am still part of one geoup that got shut down because obviously someone complained about either their views on homosexuality, and or Islam. WOW, and the people who claim to be the most liberal are also the first ones trying to silence their dissenters. I do believe this is a sign of the times.

They're only tolerant as long as you comply with their standards of beliefs. Its the same shout down tactics practiced by the Nazi brown shirts. You have the freedom of speech as long as we agree with what you're saying. And yet, most of the brain dead and "enlightened" people in this country are too shallow to figure this one out.

Besides--we've been warned we would be in a period where "good was considered evil" and "evil considered good".

when I was coming up I had to run the whole farm sunup to sundown it included logging building and the do it yourself hand up program . (If you git it you'll earn it )

The dad would have had much more credibility in my mind if he wouldn't have used so many curse words when he was "speaking" to his daughter, via video. Other than that I applaud a dad that will put a child in his/her place. This world is over-run with teens and pre-teens that are running the household with their whiney demands. One of the blessings of our personal challenges the last few years is that our children have seen first hand how wonderful life can be without "having it all". Material things are unimportant. Now when I see my daughter's boyfriend dressing my 18 month old grandson in all brand name clothing it frustrates me. I pray that we (his grandparents) are able to show him that material things do not make you a better person.

As for the liberals imposing censorship. I remember 30 years ago it was the long haired, loud mouthed, anti-war, "artist" that fought to keep his/her works from being censored. Now the tables are turned and the liberals have free reign of the media and us conservatives have to constantly worry that our rights are going to disappear. The times have most certainly changed. I am encouraged to see more and more Christians standing up and starting to fight though. Just as I am glad to see a parent that is not scared to stand up to his/her child in front of the world.

The police department have a moral in their theory of

most officers life depends on what they are trained to do

Its a case in fact their jobs require it

when I watched the video and considered the like mindedness I thought the Father had the same theory in mind as the police usually do

However upon thinking about the real message

1. She shamed her entire family multiple times on Facebook- not once but TWICE.
2. He explicitly warned her that if she did that crap again, the consequences would be SEVERE (and it was)
3. His house, HIS LAPTOP, HIS INTERNET SERVICE, his rules and his punishment.
4. He did not violate her privacy to see what she posted, he saw it from the DOG's account when he uploaded pictures and to comment on them.

He rightfully took her laptop and make an example out of it. IMHO he should have taken it along with the rest of her toys the first time she stooped to shaming his family on Facebook....

Now she knows daddy isn't kidding when when he says that the next time she does [insert bad thing here] the punishment will be severe.

The general media is pretty liberal, as for here on RF and most people I have talked to in my hometown, the talk isn't liberal, most really applaud the dad for his actions. However SteveJM is right, the dad is doing exactly what he hated his daughter doing, and that is complaining about how bad life is at home on Facebook. He did the same thing to her and perhaps that too was part of her lesson learning via humiliation.

Maybe next time she will keep her ungrateful trap shut....... I can guarantee you that if I did something like that to my family, the punishment would have been a lot worse than getting my laptop shot by a .45 cal. There would have been some well deserved physical reprocussions in addition to getting my computer taken away...

There are only 2 things that I can fault the father with an neither of them are unforgiveable

1. using a curse word
2. smoking

While I don't go to his extreme, I do take away, and have even thrown away toys when my children misbehave. I think that they both are at fault, both of complaining to the public about private matters.

Might want to reconsider that position. Our bodies are temples according to God and we should not be foolish to poinsin them...with untold numbers of cancer causing materials contained in cigarette smoke...

Coffee can be poison and could be considered a "defamation" of the temple. It is debatable that GMO food is poison. People are told to "flinch" at the sight of a cigarette, but gleefully suck down mercury laced corn syrup or taking their flu vaccinations with mercury. There's plenty of "poison" to go around. I have nothing to reconsider.

Gotta love it when people try to justify their position.

But, you can and it has been linked beyond reasonable dout that you WILL suffer when you smoke...but hey it's your body and you can do as you see fit with it but to flat out deny that smoking is not a sin is just flat out wrong...

BTW, he came out and stated that he should have not cursed in that video when giving his response and that he should have not smoked.

let's see... I'd do it almost the same.

I'd not be smoking a cigarette. (That's a habit I promised my wife I'd quit as soon as I could afford to just go out and buy a Chantix prescription. She absolutely hates it and I'm getting mature enough to want to quit it for my own reasons as well.)

I'd not have used the word "***" in my comment directed at my daughter. That was rude and a bad example of a parent using the "Do as I say, not as I do" philosophy
