Some Chicken May Contain Arsenic, FDA Says


The FDA said Wednesday that a new study developed by the agency shows that an ingredient in chicken feed that contains arsenic, called Roxarsone, may make its way into parts of the bird that are eaten. Previous studies have indicated that the arsenic was eliminated with chicken waste.

Pfizer Inc., which makes the feed ingredient, said Wednesday that it will pull it off the market in the United States. Had the company not stopped sales, the FDA could have eventually banned the product since it contains a known carcinogen.

Many poultry producers have already stopped feeding their birds the ingredient, which has been used since the 1940s to kill parasites and promote growth.

Chicken has always been expensive, at least to me, with 6 people to feed. I agree about not wanting to buy it now though.

I like to eat chicken but this will change my mind I think at least for a while.

Perhaps, but with all the cancer, autoimmune diseases, etc. that have appeared in the last 50-60 years one has to wonder if stuff like this doesn't contribute.

At any rate, prayers over meals will take on even more importance in our household.

Yes......and mankind sinning against one another.

We are to love God with all of our heart, and our neighbors as ourselves. This is a strong indication of man not loving their neighbor and sinning against God.

In this particular case the sin of greed is the root, with many people potentially effected for the worse.

I think it is wise to take a second look at our food. After all, recently there have been babies dying from contaminated milk which somehow was given the ok to be shipped into America. Much of the popular brand juices have total arsenic levels above the drinking water standard of 10 parts per billion. There has been one recall after another with food contamination issues.

It's good to be aware and cautious, not to worry about it but to pray and trust God that he will guide and help us with the food issues.

On that note, it's interesting for me about the juice because a couple of years ago while shopping, I had an inner, persisitent thought that it would not be good for me to buy some of the juices I had been giving my kids. I kept sluffing it off, but the thought kept coming to me, "You have been warned." I decided that perhaps God was warning me and maybe I'd better listen. Especially since it looked like on the containers that the juice may be coming from out of America. I'm glad that I payed attention.

So, we should be alert, but don't worry and ask God for guidance.

It used to really upset me to hear things like this, food contaminated in some way. These days I just expect to hear it.

Not defeatist but being realistic.

I often pray for God to be merciful and help protect us from these things. I pray for the Lord to bless my food even if it isn't completely grown clean and without some problems when I say Grace.

I can't change what is happening around me so I just trust it to the Lord.

Maybe, but arsenic is organic too--along with lead and uranium and.............
