WEAVERVILLE, N.C. – *A pagan mother's challenge to the distribution of donated Bibles at a local school has prompted the Buncombe County Board of Education to reevaluate its policies regarding religious texts.
Ginger Strivelli, who practices Wicca, said she was upset when her 12-year-old son came home from North Windy Ridge intermediate school with a Bible. The Gideons International had delivered several boxes of the sacred books to the school office. The staff allowed interested students to stop by and pick them up.

"Schools should not be giving out one religion's materials and not others," Strivelli said.

This was on fox and I thought it was new but here's a reply to it

Bible Will 'Defend Itself' Against Pagan Books, Says NC Pastor, Christian News

Less than a month after a North Carolina Pagan woman caused a stir because her son's middle school allowed him to take a Bible from the school's office, some area pastors are speaking out, saying that if it was the other way around, and their children could get books about Paganism from the school

    Religious Freedom
Rusty Smart, an associate pastor at Calvary Worship Center in Marshall, N.C., told the Citizen-Times that if his son brought home a Pagan spell book he would use it as a “teaching moment” to share his Christian beliefs with his child without bothering the school.

“All these other religions claim to coexist, but they don’t want to coexist with Christians,” said Smart. “They want to drive us out.”

Smart's son attends North Windy Ridge Intermediate School in Weaverville – the same school that found itself at the center of a controversy after Ginger Strivelli, a practicing Pagan, complained that her son received a Bible.

The church that I attend actually holds its Sunday services in this school. My church has a small building that we call the "Weekday ministry center" but the church is now too large to hold its Sunday services there and we don't yet have a building of our own so we rent North Windy Ridge School out to meet there. The name of my church is North Point Baptist Church. We have been very involved with the principal and other folks in the school to help them with this that has been going on recently. There are a lot of christians that are teachers at this school as well as the principal and most of the other administration in the school are christians. Pretty much the decision on what is going to happen with the situation is now in the hands of the Buncombe County Board of Education. It looks as if they are leaning towards restricting all religious material from going to any school. Please pray that Satan will not have this victory and pray especially for the teachers and administration of North Windy Ridge School as they are experiencing much adversity during this difficult time.

Well lets hope and pray that God will enter into the life of the lady's son and do wonderful things....we should also pray that she turns from her wicked ways before the time runs out.

I was about to post the same story, but Billym beat me to it. Its a very sad day indeed when the weirdest individual in the batch attracts that much attention and insanity is considered credibility. Since the school refused to accept a donation of spellbooks (!), they're saying the scholl cannot accept donations of any religious material. On the other hand, that does prevent the muslims from distributing korans though...

Oh, I doubt that. Imagine the scenario if an imam stopped by and dropped of several boxes of korans, and he was told that they would not hand them out to students. All the muslims need to do is threaten violence, and the school would capitulate. Case in point: Google Ann Marie Waters. She was to hold a debate at a London university on sharia and human rights. Before the debate, one muslim came in, filmed the audience from the podium, stated that he knew how all these people were and where they lived, and said that if he heard anything negative about mohamed, he would track them down. The event was immediately canceled.

Actually I was glad you beat me to it. When I spot a story that serious, its good to know that other alert members here care enough to post that sort of thing too. That was a pleasant surprise!

I'm praying for the community they live in, that she and her daughter there don't impress or intimidate the locals. We have someone like her in my neighborhood, and Robert & I are about the only people who know about him that aren't afraid of him. Glory to God in the Highest!!

What this mom fails to realize is that the problem is her fault. The article says that students that want a bible were free to go and pick one up. If this child wanted a bible then he has not been properly educated with his mother's faith. Which is the same problem that Christian children have that leave the church when they are old enough to make the decision.

Ah, the nonexistent seperation of church and state clause in the constitution, gotta love it. Hey I've read so many articles about paganism being brough into schools by teachers. But I guess that is okay. Most of the Pagans I have run ino talk about the Bible not making sense; as well as atheists, but I've found that most Pagan's beliefs make ABSOLUTELY no sense. Its usually such a mishmash of whatever is most convienent at the given time that it makes me shake my head. And its usually an excuse to have as many sexual encounters as possible, and stay intoxicated on myriad substances as long as possible. THAT isn't something that I would want children exposed to. We have enough problems cause because of that in this world without making it worse.
