Apple lovers are known for their somewhat radical devotion to any new products the company introduces, but selling body parts to afford them is definitely something new — and scary. According to Global Times, a youngster in China's Anhui province wanted a new iPad 2 tablet so badly he was willing to part with a kidney to be able to afford it.

The student, a 17-year-old high school student named Zheng, told a local newspaper "I wanted to buy an iPad 2 but could not afford it. A broker contacted me on the Internet and said he could help me sell one kidney for 20,000 yuan." The "broker" was true to his word, and after the operation was completed on April 28, Zheng received his 20,000 yuan, which equates to a little over $3,000.

This is so sad to think some one would compromise their future health for a material possession.

I don't even have a mobile phone. I only have dial-up with my landline I could do with faster download time to view some videos but I can manage without that on my computer.

It is sad so many are hooked on technology. If my computer goes soon I woould miss it but I would manage without it. I only need a phone (landline) for emergencies.

Eeeek, how terrible. What an insult to the Falun-Gong folks and the non-state-church-attending Christians that donate both kidneys for no charge (well, their families get to pay for the execution, so I guess a small fee for medical procedure is levied, and the State charges a competitive fee from the recipient....about US$20k or so I heard).

Seriously . . .my heart goes out to the Red Chinese. I can't comprehend what their lives must be like that their only hope of obtaining wealth is through the sale of body parts. Sadly, unless the rapture is soon, and unless we turn the direction our own country is headed, we may all find out.
