    Default Warrior Outlook?

    In reading this article I could not help but think of the founding of Israel, both in ancient times and in the modern era. Warriors acted within the will of God to achieve both. And there are greater wars to come and which must take place. "Wars and rumors of wars" is a predominant theme in these last days, yet we all long for that time coming when we will learn war no more.

    Last week (as I type this) I had the opportunity to attend some training focused around school shooters. As always happens with me when I attend or discuss such things, my thoughts travel to how we raise our children today and how few people appear to be teaching their children not to be a victim. Now I’m not talking about teaching your children to fight for the sake of fighting or to prove their a man or some such nonsense. I’m talking about a willingness to stand and defend one’s self, one’s family and one’s property. That willingness to enter conflict to defend or protect is a warrior mindset, if you will, that I believe should be taught to every young American yesterday, today, tomorrow and forever.

    Why? A simple question with a complex answer.

    Think back about the history of the United States. Heck, ponder the beginning of any country in the past 1,000 years. Can you find one that was started with absolutely no violence? All of the countries I can think of today have their roots in a conflict that was started by groups of people who believed differently than the ruling class at whatever time period you look at. Most often the differences were religious or political, but in some instances the difference in belief centered around simple basic human rights.

    As we specifically consider the United States of America it’s easy to see where our forefathers decided enough is enough and broke from the King of England to form our own nation. The need to do so was based on a belief structure that valued each human equally (even though we weren’t perfect in that) and insured that government was restricted in its power. Although that occurred more than 230 years ago those values still hold true today. The challenge we face is that individual sovereignty demands individual responsibility and there are far too many people in our country today who would rather not be responsible for themselves. They want “big brother” to take care of them; do for them; give to them. I’d be perfectly happy with big brother would get the [gehenna] out of my way and stay the [gehenna] out of my life.

    At least symbolically, a few states have begun to stand up and say, “Enough!” In South Dakota, Wyoming, Oklahoma and other states the legislatures are passing laws, and the governors are signing them, that proclaim each state’s sovereignty above and in front of any claim by the federal government. As the House of Representatives tries to find a way to pass “Healthcare Reform” that has been repeatedly disapproved by the general public, some states are already passing laws that exempts them from what they perceive as an unacceptable intrusion into how they govern themselves. From coast to coast people are recognizing that “big brother government” has grown too far too fast and needs to be reigned in. Such has become hugely obvious as the current administration seeks to be all things to all people while spending tons of money our country simply doesn’t have. The states are saying, “Enough!” The people have said, “Enough!” It appears that the attitude of self-reliance may be making a come back.

    And don’t you think it’s about time?

    Sadly, it never went away, but it is in its death throes.

    The Lamb I know is also the Lion of Judah and Captain of the Lord's host and will return at the head of the armies of heaven to fight, and wow what a knock-down drag-em out pasting that will be. When He says fight I'll fight, but in my awareness of how evil and deceitful my heart and flesh are I'm paying extra special attention to His words about those who live by the sword, where His Kingdom is from and how and when to fight. If some nutcase comes into my school and runs amok he'd better have his wits about him because then I'd fight...if he gives me an early ticket home to be with the Lord I won't complain.

    On the other hand, if it's the government arresting me or plundering my belongings then it's a case of patiently suffering under injustice, this is a better witness and testimony than resisting. The fine line is when does resistance become rebellion...for rebellion is as witchcraft to the Lord. As in all things we must obey the Lord rather than man. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ; keep your Bible handy, your powder dry and wait for His command.

    I believe the context of 1 Samuel 15:23 is very specific to King Saul's rebellion against God; his failure to do exactly as the Lord instructed him through Samuel.

    Verses 1-3:

    Samuel also said to Saul, “The LORD sent me to anoint you king over His people, over Israel. Now therefore, heed the voice of the words of the LORD. Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he ambushed him on the way when he came up from Egypt. Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”
    And beginning with verse 7 through verse 9 we see what King Saul actually did.

    And Saul attacked the Amalekites, from Havilah all the way to Shur, which is east of Egypt. He also took Agag king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword. But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed.
    And what was the Lord's immediate response? Verse 10 says:

    Now the word of the LORD came to Samuel, saying, “I greatly regret that I have set up Saul as king, for he has turned back from following Me, and has not performed My commandments.”
    And verses 17-19 get into more detail on the Lord's displeasure with King Saul:

    So Samuel said, “When you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Israel? And did not the LORD anoint you king over Israel? Now the LORD sent you on a mission, and said, ‘Go, and utterly destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’ Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD? Why did you swoop down on the spoil, and do evil in the sight of the LORD?”
    King Saul gave a measely response and blamed the people for the failure to heed the command of Lord.

    Samuel's response is the crux of the Lord's view of Samuel's rebellion against the mission God assigned King Saul, verses 22-23:

    “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
    As in obeying the voice of the LORD?
    Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
    And to heed than the fat of rams.
    For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft,
    And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
    Because you have rejected the word of the LORD,
    He also has rejected you from being king.”
    The point is that America would not exist were it not for the rebellion of our Founding Fathers against the tyranny of the King George of Great Britain.

    The second paragraph of our Declaration of Independence reads: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness."

    That's rebellion against the will of tyrannical men - not God. That's rebellion against a a human king, or one's own government when it becomes destructive to the rights granted us by God.

    Self-reliance and the spirit of keeping what is rightfully ours, what has been paid for in the blood sacrifice of our fathers and great-great grandfathers of every generation, is what Frank Borelli is talking about, and that spirit is being greatly manifest all over this country in the Tea Party Movement. "We the People" have had enough and we're going to take back from the godless socialists what God has given us. We are going to do this for the nation, for our children and for the sake of Israel lest we be condemned for allowing our government to curse Israel.
