WESTMINSTER’S sleaze-buster is being called on to probe claims made against Gordon Brown.

The allegations, that the Prime Minister failed to declare party cash he had siphoned off to create a secret slush fund, are made in the memoirs of Labour’s former general secretary Peter Watt.

Conservative MP Greg Hands has written to John Lyon, Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, asking him to investigate a failure to declare the cash in the Register of Members’ Financial Interests. Mr Hands also wrote to the Prime Minister demanding to know why he did not declare the alleged £50,000 fund, which Mr Watt claims Mr Brown, when Chancellor, used to pay for private polling.

Watts wrote in his memoirs, Inside Out: “Gordon went to some lengths to insulate himself and the Treasury from our financial troubles, setting up his own personal pot of cash at party HQ.”

The claim was dismissed by Mr Brown, who said he knew “nothing” about it, while a Labour source said it was “utter rubbish” designed to “distract attention from the Tories’ chaotic economic policies”.

That is probably true, manage better being the key words. He or she might have a bit of grace period but the end result for the public could very well be, continuing disappointment.

Yes, very good point but it just goes to show that his narcissism (all pols have it to some degree) is much less than the clown in the W.H.

i think the leaders of both countries are trying to fulfill their people's wishes.
the fact that no party manages leads me to conclude that the people themselves are in two minds over what to do.
in contrast israelis want nothing to be done. they want exactly zero decisions to be made. and bibi is perfect at this job. i know it sounds quite simple but all the rest of our PM's have rushed with decisions and made a big mess.

Interesting. It might work in some countries but probably not here in the U.S. where many people want instant gratification, instant solutions, and to be entertained, and that is not even considering the "real problems," the most serious one at the moment being jobs."

I used to watch Blair, as opposition leader, when C-span broadcast HOC debates back in the 1990s. He certainly had the gift of gab but that was all he had, from my observations. What amazes me is how Brown has even lasted this long without new elections being forced on him. And I think he is a Scot isn't he? A lot of Brits of the English variety don't seem to be too enamored with Scots, based on my observations and visits to the U.K., or is it the other way around?

To be honest there are more Scots in parliament than English, yet the English cannot vote for Scotland as they now have their own parliament with no English in it, now sort that one out LOL

My ggrandmother was from Scotland, and what a beautiful place it is, and very friendly people, at least those whom I talked to were. Only the Kiwis are friendlier than the Scots, from my experience. After visiting Wales, I know the Welsh surely don't like the English.

I think it depends on where you are in england how people feel about the rest of the UK.
There was an antipathy to the welsh in the south west.
Some places the Irish are not liked
Some places the Scots are less popular.

I like most of the Scots I know. But I do know some I dislike. Of course I dislike some english as well.
