[Chris and Buzz, I apologize for posting this in the wrong place, but I just wanted to be sure that as many as possible saw it today.]
If you know an US Military VETERAN, PLEASE copy this to them today with a personal note of "thanks"...it's the least we can do for such service and sacrifice...
If YOU are an US Military VETERAN, please read on...
Today in the US is Veterans Day. Sadly, for many who are off from work today, today is just that -- a day off from work. To many kids who are out of school, today is just a day out of school. I think that that is wrong.
Today is supposed to be the day that we thank all the soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and everyone else that I've left off of this list, for their service to this nation, and to us, the citizenry.
To all veterans, I say this: THANK YOU. YOU have done what most of us have not done. Some of us did not serve because we were medically unacceptable. Some of us did not serve because we were not able to adapt to a military lifestyle. And some of us did not serve because we were lazy or apathetic. But YOU did serve. YOU did the things that most of us either could not or would not do. YOU put yourselves on the line for the rest of us. I am humbled, and am in awe of YOU, your service, and the sacrifices YOU have made that I only THINK I understand something about.
We -- ALL OF US -- owe YOU a debt that we can never truly repay. At least on this one day, I want to tell YOU that I never grow tired of honoring YOU, your service, and your patriotism. This nation is singular in this world due to the Grace of God, and the sacrifices of men and women just like YOU.
And so I say, "THANK YOU," "THANK YOU," "THANK YOU!"
I'll close with these words of then Senator Zell Miller, delivered in 2004:
"Never in the history of the world has any soldier sacrificed more for the freedom and liberty of total strangers than the American soldier. And, our soldiers don't just give freedom abroad, they preserve it for us here at home.
"For it has been said so truthfully that it is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
"It is the soldier, not the agitator, who has given us the freedom to protest.
"It is the soldier who salutes the flag, serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives that protester the freedom to abuse and burn that flag."
