OK, my American friends, explain this to me, please. this bill was to bail out Wall Street to prevent a total economic collapse. then what do the following provisions that are included in this 500 +/- page document have to do with that purpose?

    ---

Energy improvement and extension act ... dealing with coal/wind/geothermal/and other alternative energy. Excise tax provisions. Energy conservation and efficiency, renewable energy incentives/tax credits for companies, steel industry tax credits

Carbon mitigation and coal provisions ... investment credits, carbon credits, funding of black lung liability fund, taxation,

Transportation and domestic fuel security ... Incentives for domestic production, incentives for electric cars, exclusion of idiling tax on heavy trucks, alternative fuels, benefits for bike riders

Energy conservation and efficiency ... Rebates/credits for buying energy efficient home appliances/finanical incentives for green building methods

Various income tax measures ... Railroad maintenance taxes, racing track facility cost recovery, tax relief measures related to Hurricane Katrina workers, enhanced deductions for computer contributions to gulf states disaster relief, permanent authority granted for undercover operations to support tax administration, increased child tax credit refundable portion

Extended rules for television and film production

Removal of tax on children's wooden arrows.

Income averaging on amounts received from Exxon Valdez litigation

Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici mental health parity and addiction equity act

Funding for rural schools and roads

Secure payments to states that contain federal lands

Funds for special projects on federal lands.

    Disaster relief measures

    ---

Now I am sure those are all worthy things. BUT WHAT THE HECK DOES ANY OF THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THE STATED PURPOSE OF THE ORIGINAL BILL???

You Americans have a weird system that must have been designed by heavy duty pork lovers!

Historian that you are, I thought you'd be able to explain how your country ever developed this system.

Matt, hopefully soon, I will be transferring my address. My Father has a mansion that he has bought for me. I dont know the full address yet, I heard something about a gated community with golden streets. The city is Heaven, that im sure about. As far as I know, you don't need a visa, map, car, or plane to get there. You can fly there on your own if you just believe and accept Christ.

This will be my new home, and I wont have to put up with governments, sorrow, sickness or death. I am hoping for a nice corner lot overlooking glory land, somewhere close to the tree of life. If your in the neighborhood sometime, just drop on by. There is always an abundance of living water and singing goin on. As for this world....im just passin through!

Awesome bro (and fellow Texan)! I most certainly will drop by since I understand I too will be in the same neighborhood. And consider the invitation offered to you, too. You'll find me in the middle of the block. I won't be having a corner lot since I want to be as close to the Temple as possible. I've found being on the edge a dangerous place so I tend to want to be as far away from it as possible. Though I understand that no place up there will be far from the Temple and there is no fear of anything that could ever pull us away once we're there. So you enjoy your corner lot, bro.

Just makes you want to shout a little, doesn't it?

I'm still curious about this pork.
But heaven sounds exciting too. ;) Ever heard the Keith Green song, "I can't wait to get to heaven"?

Well, look at the bright side--if there's massive pork in DC, then that ought to keep the Islamics out...

For those of you interested in pork. The congressional thought on it is: the more that a bill is needed/desired the more stuff can be stuck on the bill and it will still be approved. Another item of interest is that the larger a bill is the easier it is to hide a few one liners in it.

Another popular bill for pork is the annual budget. Since it is huge anyway, and very very needed so that government doesn't have to shut down, it gets lots of pork hidden in it.

I am impressed with the approximately 500 pages that were expanded from around 9 pages in under two weeks!

They are destroying our country, simple as that. Out of all the cries of outrage about this bill, the elite legal minds, and those drunk with power felt it was in their best interest and for our own good to pass this bill. We have lost our representative government, and when the people have no voice, no rights, it leads to tyranny. Just my humble oppinion. But I am getting sick of the way our government running.

It makes me yearn for the Rapture more each day!

34*Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
    Matt 6:34 (KJV)

See our Congress is very Biblical!:rofl1

Well, since we do have a constitutional republic Congress isn't always supposed to listen to the voters. In times of crisis they are supposed to vote for the good of the country. Unfortunately it looks like the voters knew better than congress this time.

It is time for the Screntner voting method. "Never vote for an incumbent".

Think of political pork like a parasite. It does have purpose, but ususally not too important. It cannot live on it's own without a host. So individual bills of pork would never be passed because that would leave a definitive paper trail back to the money wasters and all those who voted in favor of.

The "bail-out" bill is like a run away locomotive-....very hard to stop. If you can attach your parasite to this high inertia bill, it's likely to pass and not be especially revealing as to who is responsible.
