The Empire of the Sun vs. The British Empire in WW2
Discipline, obedience, courage, endurance.
Righteousness too, where the Law of God written on the human heart was still effective because conscience was not seared beyond working. In some, it was reinforced and nurtured by the indwelling Spirit (many were saved on the Railway...), many had merely the appearance thereof without admitting the true power (fostered by the kind of culture only Christianity birthed and which can only exist as long as true Christians are there in sufficient number and are heard), and some were confronted with it and obeyed when tested in the moral arena of this life. Many others did not. A caveat or two: this is a fictional film based on true stories (being there would have been far uglier); there is a difference between the righteousness imputed by faith (vital for Salvation) and the righteousness of men...the first is a gift, the second is a work springing from faith or lack thereof; and finally, this story is prone to hijacking by the hollowers-out of true Christianity, the social gospel types that dictate deeds rather than Faith.
An interesting book to read is the true story "Miracle on the Kwai", by Gordon Gordon. Good preparation for hard times ahead. The empire of the sun is still around in its various franchises, for a little while longer. Lots to learn from in this video, but put your Acts 17:11 glasses on first:
