Ducati, the issue is that on the last time out on this topic some very nasty things happened and nasty things were said to people. Therefore some, Hannah being one, are a little gun shy about the topic. And I do not blame them. Usually when somebody comes in and immediately, without introduction, starts a poll or drops a bombshell questions, it signals they are here with an agenda. This time it appears the attempt was an honest go at finding out some information. But we'll see. The Holy Spirit always reveals the truth. One way or the other.

I have had a very exciting day
I have not been able to find my old Bible that my dad got for me back in 85 Im still looking for it, I might have given it away to someone but I don't remember, may it be a blessing to whom ever finds it.
So anyway I have been using Bible apps OliveTree YouVersion and iBooks on my phone and OliveTree on my computer to read but lately I have had a burning sensation to actually hold and read a physical Bible. I ordered 5 Bibles and received 2 of them today!

    1. Cambridge KJV Standard Text ISBN-13: 978-0521696098
    2. Hendrickson Publishers New International Version Minister ISBN-13: 978-1565636392

The other 3 have not arrived

    3. Local Church Bible Publishers Spanish/English RV/KJV Bible
    4. Local Church Bible Publishers KJV Anniversary Edition
    5. old Bible from 1949 I found on eBay KJV with helps

You know I am bilingual and reading different versions in english has helped me grasp everything a lot better unfortunately my grammar is bad in english and exceptionally worse in spanish, I ask that you keep me in your prayers. I started my walk with Christ again about a year ago very difficult road especially coming from the entertainment music industry of 23 years the last time I actually served the LORD with all my heart was when I was about 0-13 Im about to be 39 in a few weeks. I stopped going to church again because of an incident but I am reading the Bible and not going out to nightclubs or associating with any of my old friends mostly nightclub owners music artist ungodly women I have cut off all relationships except my fan base they still follow me on fb twitter and myspace. So please I request that you pray for me to find a good place of worship and friends a group of believers that will not judge me based on my past. I also ask that GOD leads me where he wants me to go but prepares me spiritually mentally and physically.

    thanks

Brother, thank you for sharing. I am rejoicing with you that you have listened to God who has been calling you back to Him. He is sooooo good! I have spent my entire working life in broadcasting and have close friends and relatives performing in the music and film industries. I know, first hand, the temptations that surround us. For me, sex, drugs and rock & roll (literally) led me into a very dark place, for a very long time. Thankfully, as in your life, God in His mercy and grace reached down and pulled me out. And all that I had done He washed away. I went to those whom I had hurt and asked their forgiveness ... which was given ... but God had already taken ALL my sins and cast them, as the bible says, into His sea of forgetfulness ... cast them as far from me as the east is from the west.

The choice of a church is very important. I might be able to offer a suggestion or two if I knew what city you live in (and what country, if not the US.)

Now that you have posted what you are praying for, Vicki and I will be adding our prayers on your behalf, and I have no doubt whatsoever that every other member here will be doing the same. I look forward to your future posts.

GOD always has a purpose, sometimes he shows us in 40 years and sometimes it's quicker. I so needed to read your testimony. GOD is love and so wonderful.

that makes my heart leap up with joy

I have to admit I will read any Bible I can get my hands on
    I love Gods word

what I won't do is endorse all translations I read
some of them are very subtle and we all know who loves suitability .

Try the expositors study Bible (KJV)
Its a college in a book
    well worth the money

yes it is like a study Bible because of the way the notes are it offers scriptures to verify other places it may be more explained or written again

Expositors means simply that Expository writing is a type of writing, the purpose of which is to inform, explain, describe, or define the author's subject to the reader

very helpful in that you do not nee a stack of history books to dig through to find out what era of time in history your reading about

expositors expound greatly on the subject written about

    to expound means to explain

when things are explained they are easier to understand in meaning context and in statements

    word divine
I had actually ordered one for a young man who got himself incarcerated and they would not allow him to have it because it was not paper back I guess they are afraid somebody might knock somebody else out with a hard back one
anyway I was real down about it until I picked up the book and began reading it for myself
Its almost like reading the Book for the first time in many respects

I would encourage every one to have one

The only difference in the Crossfire edition of the Expositor's is that it contains extra notes for young people by Gabriel Swaggart, the youth pastor. The notes, though, are actually beneficial to all Christians who are still getting grounded.

I read the KJV (1611). But, when doing my nightly Bible study I listen to the NKJV on CD while reading along in the KJV.

After reading matt's review of the NASB study Bible, I'll definitely consider getting one

I have to echo the praises for the Expositors Study Bible by Jimmy Swaggart Ministers. This Bible is a collaboration of a decade of work by some of the worlds most respected theologians and scholars of old. Not only is it a beautifully crafted book its expositors notes and high lights bring out things you would have other wise just "over read" , I call them little nuggets. I gave mine to a co-worker and he told me a week later that he couldn't but it down. He told me the 'little nuggets' have opened his eyes to the more deeper things of scripture.

Nugget example : The first question reported in the Bible is Gen.3.9, "where are you"? In the New Testament its Matt.2.2 , "where is he"? >The Old Testament , God seeking the sinner ; the New Testament , the sinner seeking God.

Thats just one ,this entire Bible is just like this and some. Can't recommend it enough. And its less $$$ then your other name brand Bibles. Its also available e-Bible for your computer.

I use NIV the most, followed by ESV and NKJV. Occasionally use NASB.

Similar to Jared above I hang around a number of "Young, Restless, Reformed" crowd so the ESV is relatively well known in this circle. NKJV is not well known in this country outside Calvary Chapel circles, but I do mingle with Left Behind readers years ago and they got me on reading the NKJV. A church whose teachings I respect mandates the use of NASB, but I don't know anyone locally that uses it.

On non-English versions I use CUV.
