formerly Ive thought along those same lines ,but I am not certain atall that is accurate
why ?
Revelations 1 states it to plainlyThe Revelation of Jesus Christ which God gave unto him ........(((the him being John))) the revelation given is of Jesus Christ NOT John John was just the instrument used to write the account
I can not find anywhere in scripture where angels are described in the manner it is written in Revelations 10so to merely interpret it as just a angel totally dismisses the obvious similarity of the apparition (vision) in verses 5 and 6 of the book of Daniel and in Revelations 1:13 where verse 16 suggest that it was Immanuel himself it states in 13 ... and in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the son of man and we know Jesus Christ is head of the church the actual centerpiece

the description clothed with a cloud and a rainbow upon his head and his face as if it were the sun indicates Jesus is the one who has the little book and is worthy to open it . Some things not even angels know and as we read John was not to relate what was given (seven thunders) . It is however odd that verse 5 states Angel saw when in verse 1 to 5 describes Jesus and not a angel
the angel is not descending blowing a trumpet in 10 ,he is clothed described with greater power and authority than a angel and opening a little book from what I'm reading
