I need to ask a favor. Our class has been asked to pick scripture to do an Exegetical paper on. We had to tell the professor this past Thursday what our scriptures were. I initially stated I'd like to do mine on John 20: 14-18 but the professor suggested I broaden it to 10-18 so I could get more meat out of it. He said if it turned out that it was way too lengthy, I could limit the passages.
I had no idea what an exegesis was till I started this class 3 weeks ago. I'm s-l-o-w-l-y learning, although the book we're using doesn't even go into an Exegetical study...just how to pick apart (mine) each word and sentence.
This paper is due January 15th, on top of the 200-300 pages of reading and several 8-10 page papers we have to hand in weekly. My time therefore is really crunched.
So far, in between weekly homework, I've managed to find the Greek word and definitions for every word in the scripture using KJV. (Unless someone knows of an on-line Concordance for NIV). I just feel I should be farther along than I am.
What I'm asking is, if anyone has read any good historical books or come across some informative sites about the Apostle John or commentary on his first book, would you mind letting me know? I've already bought and installed Power Bible that includes 20 commentaries, and does scriptural cross-references (as long as I used the KJV), plus I've picked up the Archaeological Bible and ESV Bible (which gives some valuable background information). But anything, any book, site, article...ANYTHING that you think gives great insight to John's gospel I'd be deeply appreciative if you would let me know. Our papers have to be 13 pages minimum, so the more information I have to deal with, the better.
Thanks so much and would you all please pray for me on this project?
Blessings!
