Default to KNOW the truth is Confidence in the Lord

I was reading the Psalms starting at the beginning again last nite. It's just so amazing how God's word is eternal in that the tapestry of truths gleaned are like as one person said like a drop in an ocean of the mind of our eternal God that we imbibe like living waters

Anyways, I came across a verse I've read before but this time I saw a truth that David found great strength in the Lord from. David is talking about his enemies in Psalm 4 and and how long will they love delusions and seek false gods"-Ps.4:2b. Then he says a great truth that we can KNOW is already true in our lives as Christians.

David said in Ps.4:3 "KNOW that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself" --It's already done and we need to know this great truth. Of course we're still catching up to that truth until we get to heaven. But we can live in victory knowing that we are set apart as God's children already--"has set apart the godly for himself" and that means that we are already sanctified which means that we will love the TRUTH and it will continue to be what sets us apart-Jesus said, "Sanctify them by the truth; Thy word is truth"-John 17:17

John 17:19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified"

It's a truth that should give us great hope in times of discouragement and the attacks from this world and our enemies that we are already set apart and we need to learn to live up to that truth and not miss out of the blessings God has for us..

"... that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which ARE SANCTIFIED by faith that is in Me." - Acts 26:18

"By the which will we ARE SANCTIFIED through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all... For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that ARE SANCTIFIED." - Hebrews 10:10, 14

"And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye ARE SANCTIFIED, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." - 1 Corinthians 6:11

Awesome! These verses are speaking of our position in Christ. We have—in position—been sanctified since the moment we were justified by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the Cross. From that point on our walk becomes the process of bringing our condition in line with our position. This is the progressive work of the Holy Spirit in us! We do not have to walk in fear that somehow we are not pure and holy and acceptable before the Father. But at the same time we are all too aware that in our thoughts and sometimes our words and our actions we are not pure and not holy ... even when we so badly want to be. Sanctification is what we call the process of God separating us from the world and unto Himself in visible fact as opposed to invisible state.

Look at 1 Corinthians 6:11. that our sister included in her second post. Note first that the three verbs washed, sanctified, and justified are in the aorist tense and middle voice which combined means that they are completed actions of which we are the beneficiaries. So the better translation is you were washed, were sanctified, and were justified. As myinnuendo says, these are completed past actions. Now, it is important to know that the word sanctify means, at root, to be set apart ... specifically, to be set apart for a holy purpose. Now separation implies being separated FROM something, and TO something. So we are separated from our old life and from the world, unto God and a new life. Finally we must know that the verb justify in Greek means to be judicially ruled as acceptable and righteous. In other words, we are made righteous by God, in God's eyes.

So, now let us note the order: 1) we are washed ... He makes us clean, through the blood of Christ; 2) we are separated from the world and set apart unto Himself, by an act of His will; and thus 3) we are then declared by God to be righteous on the ground of His Son's sacrifice which we have accepted by faith. (I have separated these for the purpose of a brief study, but they are not separate steps in salvation. They are part of the instantaneous process as soon as we repent and accept Christ for who He is and His sacrifice as all sufficient for all time.

So, folks, we may not feel clean, sanctified, holy and righteous at times ... but we ARE in His eyes. And not just in His eyes. He has decreed it; and nothing God decrees can be undone nor can any criticize it on any ground. His Word is pure and Holy and what He says ... IS. But never let this realization keep us from always earnestly desiring to be in our experience what we are in our standing. May we not just be sanctified in Christ, may we LIVE sanctified in Christ. And we cannot do that by our own effort, but only by daily walking with Christ and willingly surrendering our own will and desires and rights to His.

Sorry, myinnuendo, I did not mean to step all over this lovely thread you began; but I just wanted to share the awesomeness of what God has wrought for us in Christ and add even more support to what you have said.

No way did I take it like that brother. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your insight along with others. I love to read people's responses and especially when there's this JOY because of our relationship in Christ and the truths that set us free... thank you so much and you're spot on brother.
