Many people today would tell you the Bible is an old book, which is grossly outdated, and should be rewritten. So, should the Bible be rewritten to be of value today because it’s an old Book? The Bible has been attacked throughout the centuries and will continue to be attacked. Moreover, John 10:35 tell us, The Scripture cannot be broken.” Psalm 119:89 emphasizes this fact when it says, “Forever, O LORD, Your Word is settled in heaven.” Many powerful people have dedicated their life and enormous resources in wiping out our faith without any success. The teachings of Scripture, including the priceless words of Jesus, are indestructible, timeless, trans-cultural, has meaning and purpose in giving needed guidance to all peoples in all centuries including the one in which we are now living. Scripture … God’s precious Word … doesn’t need to be rewritten. There is no other book on the shelves of book stores today that speak of earthly things and human experiences, describing with clarity and authority areas of heaven and earth, things seen and unseen; revealing facts about God, angels, men, time and eternity, life and death; of sin and salvation, of heaven and hell. Thus, the Bible is the only book for life’s big questions: Who am I? Why am I here? Is there a God? Does life have any meaning or purpose?

Fine writing has enduring value when it speaks to the heart-issues people have always shared … issues like relationships, love, and surviving in this world. However,the Bible tops them all. It stands above the rest not only because it speaks clearly and accurately about the human condition but also because it was inspired by the One who created us. It’s the Bible, God’s Word to us. When it talks about marriage, it’s right on target. When it talks about how to treat others, it’s more helpful than today’s advice columns you find in the newspaper. But most importantly, when it talks about the purpose of life, it’s the only source of truth. The apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 2:16, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God” and 2 Peter 1:21 states, “Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” That my friend makes the Bible the most valuable and desirable of all books. Proverbs 2:6 tell us, “The LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.”

We live in an age of technology that makes available to us information via the Internet where a person can browse through any of thousands of libraries day or night. However, a mere accumulation of facts, though, doesn’t necessarily add up to insight and understanding. Not all the learning of philosophers, the speculations of ethicists, and the achievements of scientists can give us the truth about God and His will, His grace, or the good news concerning Jesus Christ and salvation from sin. For that knowledge, we need the Bible … and we always will. So, don’t squander your time merely acquiring facts. It’s far better to study the truth that God has given us in His Word. Yes, the Bible may be an old book; however, it’s still the best book and will always continue to be, because it’s a gift to us from our Creator and Author … God. Hebrews 4:12 puts it this way, “The Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thought and intents of the heart”

God’s Word is timeless because it speaks to every generation.
