    Default It's ALL about JESUS

I was reading the beginning of Isaiah chapter 8 when I came to verse 6 where it says ""Because this people has rejected
the gently flowing waters of Shiloah
    and rejoices over Rezin
    and the son of Remaliah,

I was struck with this verse like a light coming on- "Because this people has rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloah<<<--that's all about JESUS right there>>>WOW
We really DO have all we need in Christ, but we reject the gently flowing waters of Shiloah in our lives because we rejoice over Rezin and the Son of Remaliah--whatever that means in Context. I need to study more......to be continued

I just wanted to share cause I get excited when God's word is illumined by the Holy Spirit in my life. And it is always good to seek others advise to make absolutely sure this is Sound and from the Holy Spirit.--2 Peter 1:20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. 21For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. If it's not then please correct me... Thank you.

now I need to find out what Shiloah means

Pekah was the son of Remaliah. Pekah conspired against a reigning king of Israel, assassinated him and took the throne and did evil in the Lord's sight. (1 Kings 15) He continued in the evil that Jeroboam son of Nebat did. (1 Kings 12)

Rezin was a king of Syria, he and Pekah allied against Ahaz king of Judah, who bribed the king of Assyria to join his side. Rezin got the chop. (2 Kings 16)

You were just around the corner from a detailed description:

    Isaiah 7:1-9
1 IN THE days of Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, Rezin the king of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel went up to Jerusalem to wage war against it, but they could not conquer it.
2 And the house of David [Judah] was told, Syria is allied with Ephraim [Israel]. And the heart [of Ahaz] and the hearts of his people trembled and shook, as the trees of the forest tremble and shake with the wind.
    3 Then said the Lord to Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Judah's King Ahaz, you and your son Shear-jashub [a remnant shall return], at the end of the aqueduct or canal of the Upper Pool on the highway to the Fuller's Field;
4 And say to him, Take heed and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted because of these two stumps of smoking firebrands--at the fierce anger of [the Syrian King] Rezin and Syria and of the son of Remaliah [Pekah, usurper of the throne of Israel].
5 Because Syria, Ephraim [Israel], and the son of Remaliah have purposed evil against you [Judah], saying,
6 Let us go up against Judah and harass and terrify it; and let us cleave it asunder [each of us taking a portion], and set a [vassal] king in the midst of it, namely the son of Tabeel,
7 Thus says the Lord God: It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.
8 For the head [the capital] of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is [King] Rezin. Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be broken to pieces so that it will no longer be a people.
9 And the head (the capital) of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son [Pekah]. If you will not believe and trust and rely [on God and on the words of God's prophet instead of Assyria], surely you will not be established nor will you remain.

Altogether a pair of scoundrels....and the people rejoiced in them? Hmmm, sounds a bit like what goes on today. Harassing Judah, trying to divide it....they came to a sticky end, messing about with the Lord's beloved. Why don't people learn...

There are actually two prophetic references (arguably three, as I will show later) in this verse. The first was the historic (or the "soon present" in Isaiah's day) fulfillment. The Geneva Study Bible notes have it correct: "Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that flow gently, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son: (Shiloah) was a fountain at the foot of mount Zion, out of which ran a small river through the city: meaning, that they of Judah distrusting their own power which was small desired such power and riches as they saw in Syria and Israel."

The proof of the accuracy of this interpretation is found in the next two verses: "Now therefore, behold, the Lord is about to bring on them the strong and abundant waters of the Euphrates, even the king of Assyria and all his glory; and it will rise up over all its channels and go over all its banks. Then it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass through, it will reach even to the neck; and the spread of its wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel." (Isaiah 8:7-8)

But even the spring Shiloah and the little stream it fed are a metaphor for God's Presence in Judah. And thus the second reference was to a future time when Shiloah (which means "sent" in Hebrew) would come. Immanuel: God with us. As the Holy Spirit has clearly revealed to you in your study, this verse refers to Messiah Jesus. And as micah has pointed out, Rezin was the King of Syria the powerful ancient pagan land of the great Euphrates River. He thus symbolizes godless power.

As those of God's people in the old days chose not to delight in the fountain of God in their midst and chose rather to ally themselves with the mighty power of the pagan world (as symbolized by Rezin and the Hebrew collaborator king Pekah) and thus were doomed to be swept away by those godless forces, so those today who in their hearts despise the little fountain of Messiah and choose rather to ally themselves with the forces of this world in order to further their works will be swept away by the world. We are already seeing this in the Emergent Church with its Purpose-driven ethos and its cross-cultural, pantheistic, ecumenical beliefs. They are allying themselves with the world and with other religions in order to accomplish what they think God wants, rather than trusting the Holy Spirit to do the work as they faithfully surrender to Him. Already these churches are becoming so filled with the world's values and methods (cleverly disguised in sheep's garment) that their knowledge of God and Christ as He truly is and the purity of their faith are all being corrupted by the world's leaven.

BTW, a case can be made that this prophecy actually has THREE fulfillments. The first was the near fulfillment I spoke of earlier. The third is the one today. The second was at the time of Christ's first coming. The Jews rejected their own Messiah. The religious leaders not wanting to upset Rome and risk the wrath of Caesar and his armies and not wanting to surrender their own power chose to reject the "peaceful stream", the "gently flowing waters of Shiloah." As a result they were swept away by the rushing river of the world as Rome nevertheless still destroyed Jerusalem and drove the people into the far corners of its empire.

that's quite interesting mattfivefour and I thank God for you and the wisdom He has given you. I tell you what,, I felt like I was in a spelling contest or something waiting to see the results. I don't want to ever take God's word and misrepresent it. I know we're not perfect but it's more an ironclad for the body of Christ to be accountable to others to make SURE.
