doh! New Bible Will Be Without "Booty" and "Virgin"

New Bible Will Be Without "Booty" and "Virgin"

A new bible published with the help of a leading catholic organization will be without a couple choice words. While words like "booty" may seem silly - imagine the stories contained in the bible without the word "virgin" being used.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has confirmed that its 2011 translation of the Bible will omit the word "booty" from a verse and replace "virgin" with "young woman."

The bishops group, based in Washington, said the latest edition of the New American Bible, due out March 9, will be more accurate and more accessible than previous versions, USA Today reported Wednesday.

I'm sure that will make the world all better! If you can't change man to fit the Bible then change the bible to fit man.
Don't jump at me I'm no conclusion

The debate is they are only using what the actual word is translated to in English from Hebrew.

Anyone like myself who has two languages (English not my first language). A Direct translation doesn't always convey the full meaning. At times I need to use several words to translate the full meaning or I choose a synonym instead that has the full meaning of a word.

Yes the Hebrew word is literally 'young woman' but culturally she must be a virgin. So instead of young woman, virgin is more appropriate.

The following articles go into detail why the 'young woman' should be referred to as a virgin and not just 'young woman'.

IN DEFENSE OF THE OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECY OF THE VIRGIN BIRTH

Almah: Virgin or Young Maiden? - http://www.jewsforjesus.org/publications/issues/9_1/almah/

So the Catholics decided to do a direct translation which lacks the full meaning and therefore waters down the Word of God. Why am I not surprised.

The Catholic bible never has been accurately translated, and at the rate things are going, never will be. I used to have a New Jerusalem translation, but after I ran into some very weird discrepancies in Psalms, and found out that the verses in question were just plain invented, I threw the thing in the dumpster, a sign of utter disrespect from me. I'd have burned the thing, but paper is very difficult to burn completely (discovered that by trial and error...). Stay away from ANY Catholic bible!!! It is a sign of their lack of anointing that they are incapable of translating the Word in spite of proper education and lack of distraction!
    Psalm 73:28

28 But as for me, it is good to be near God.
    I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge;
I will tell of all your deeds.

How do we know if a Bible is catholic? Is there a list someone can post?

They say so, either on the cover or on the title page. The Catholics want attention paid to their bible "translations" so they make them clearly marked. The least obvious is the one called The New Jerusalem Translation. That'll fool a person if you don't look closely.

    Wow!

I can not believe no one feels the slightest bit convicted about changing the translations of God.

Scary, ain't it? I think they must have felt some kind of conviction, but it is possible to resist the conviction of the Holy Spirit. I know someone in person who admitted doing exactly that. For all that, openly resisting the conviction of the Holy Spirit, particularly when you know what you're doing, is NOT recommended. The person I know has already paid a high price, and I wouldn't want to be in his shoes on Judgement Day...

Next thing you know, they will want to edit out the word "sin".

Oh wait. Did they do that already?

Yes, there are a few things you should be looking for. The first thing that comes to my mind is RCC Bibles lack 1 John 5:7

Now, in RCC Bibles, you'll see that they skip verse 7, jumping straight to verse 8, and then they split one of the following verses along the line to preserve the 21-verse format you'd find in a real Bible. It's common practice for the RCC. I mean, look at what they did to the 10 commandments!
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9

Not trying to be funny about this at all but from a quote by Mike Gendron "the Roman Catholic Religion by its own admission states that over 60% of its priesthood are homosexuals today", ---that might be one explanation as to why they would remove words like "booty". They have so stigmatized the name that it just bothers their conscience and they DON't want anything bothering their conscience..

as for the word Virgin I dunno. Maybe the same thing. I can only speculate so these are just my opinion not facts.

    yep Carl

From a god of their own imagination, they have carved an image of a god that is spurious. God said in Deuteronomy 27:15 -- "Cursed is the man who carves an image or casts an idol—a thing detestable to the LORD, the work of the craftsman's hands—and sets it up in secret." Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"
