Default why Fat Tuesday is wrong and unbiblical (billiefan2000 comment)

    for those who dont know

March 8th 2011 this year is Fat Tuesday which is a catholic holiday

(and celebrated by some protestants and evangelicals for some reason

Fat tuesday is a holiday in which one can Party, Sin, and Glutton as much as possible before Ash Wednesday

and then pretend to be holy for 40 days

Jesus condemned hypocrites for their outward displays of piety (Matthew 6:1-18), revealing the self-righteous nature of such gestures

also, if you are following JESUS, why do u need to do a day of sinning (Fat Tuesday) and then act "holy" for 40 days and then go back to ur old ways

fat Tuesday is basically one saying:

I am not regenerate and repentet of my sins. it is a I believe I can still sin freely and somehow get to heaven mentality

(i.e. my "good" works and not my faith in JESUS will save me mentality

my advice: dont participate in FAT TUESDAY and always follow JESUS every day of the year

John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life."

Romans 3:22, "even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction."

Romans 5:1, "therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,"

Romans 10:9-10, "that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; 10for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation."

Romans 11:6, "But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace."

Ephesians 2:8, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God."

    billiefan!
Actually in early January, 12th Night or Feast of the Epiphany closes the Christmas season and opens Carnival season. Fat Tuesday is the end of Carnival season and so follows Ash Wednesday and Lent in which they mostly give up meat and a few abstain from alcohol for 40 days.

Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras day in New Orleans is something comparable to a present day Sodom and Gomorroh.
In our younger years, DH and I would ride around on our scooters and hand out tracts. Not so much anymore.

Amazing love! How can it be that Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

thanks, that is what I would best describe fat tuesday. it is a day of sinning and justifying ones sins of gluttony or other things

I am disturbed so called evangelicals

(well, not really considering the word evangelical can mean almost anything nowadays)

would even participate in fat tuesday and ash wednesday.
