As we’ve reported on numerous occasions in the past, the rot that is underlying in the Contemporary Christian Music industry seems to keep oozing to the surface as time marches on. We’ve seen numerous examples of this and it appears that there’s no end in sight for the skeletons falling out of the closet of this “Christian” music industry.

The latest news to reverberate through today’s “positive and encouraging” Christian music world is that there is yet another Christian musician who has chosen their sin over their Savior. According to this news article, CCM recording artist Jennifer Knapp has now “come out of the closet” as a “gay Christian.”


Jennifer Knapp doesn’t consider herself to be a crusader for the gay community and she still considers herself to be a Christian, a gay Christian [Emphasis theirs]. Her new album will be a little more mainstream and she hopes her fans, Christian and non-Christian alike, will give it and her a chance.

I encourage everyone not to ridicule Ms. Knapp like some will do, or coddle and affirm her in her sin like many will do, but sincerely pray for her to be convicted of her sin and turn to the only One who can truly make her a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). We are all great sinners in need of a greater Savior and the fact is, if we claim to have fellowship with the Savior but walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth (1 John 1:6).

And in spite of this and many similar stories of CCM artists who have embraced their sins in contradiction to holy writ, the drumbeat continues as thousands of professing Christians will continue to thrive on intoxicating doses of Contemporary Christian Music, thrust themselves deeper into idolatrous frenzies at CCM concerts, and continue to garner most of their theology from music lyrics.

I ask, how many more Christian musical artists, icon, idols have to come forth announcing their decision to embrace and practice their love of sin before evangelicals begin taking a serious look at what they entertain themselves with?



I read a great quote from a commenter a few years ago on another blog that is so apropos:

About the only music I listen to these days is either

traditional hymns, as long as they are 100% Biblically sound, no disguised sun-worship or marian idolatry or focus on me me me....it's all about Him, remember...

or JS Bach and Mendelssohn, and only the music that is, once again, 100% Biblically sound such as the aria "Großer Herr und starker König (Great Lord and mighty King) and such

and Hebrew hymns about the Messiah, and even then I'm cautious as I can't understand Hebrew...

At the school I attend we sing a song every morning before class, but seeing as how the school director who chooses the song and works the piano is a psychologist, denies John 14:6 and is a dangerous Hegelian dialectician (marxist), and regularly chooses stuff by Taize for example....and the folks singing are nearly all lost, I mostly just read the song-text and weep inside for the blasphemy and deceit and foolishness of it all. Won't survive much longer at this school, sooner rather than later I'll speak out and get the chop again from the goat-leaders. Had enough of them anyway, with their "consensus" building and hijacking of the Scriptures and denying the Gospel....

The Word Of God Is Off-Limits?

For quite some time now Apprising Ministries has been covering the Growing Gay Agenda In Evangelicalism, which is receiving a big boost as the mainstream more openly embraces the neo-liberal cult of the Emerging Church.

So it was no real shock for me when Chrystal broke the story Christian Singer Jennifer Knapp Comes Out as a Lesbian over at her fine blog Slaughter of the Sheep:

Jennifer Knapp, a Grammy and Dove Award winning Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) artist, has admitted that she is gay and that she is in a special relationship with a woman. Having gone on hiatus seven years ago, Knapp is back and is openly living her life as a lesbian. Her new album isn’t a Christian album, but she continues to maintain that she is a Christian.

According to the Baptist Press, Knapp credits the Bible with saving her life, but “remains unconvinced at the often-cited Bible verses condemning homosexuality.” According to Knapp, those are “clobber verses” (google it) and if you follow those, you should also follow the verses that say you shouldn’t eat shellfish or wear clothing with five different fabrics. It’s interesting to see the verses people will pull out of their arsenal to justify sin… (Online source)

The term “clobber verses” is a common cop out used by those who remain “unconvinced at the often-cited Bible verses condemning homosexuality” and it’s designed to head you down a rabbit trail concerning Old Testament Law. These arguments are the same as those once used by the original cult of liberalism to try and justify this deviant lifestyle; and the fact is, they’re having a rebirth through the evil influence of the Emergent Church. A while back in Emerging Church To TransFORM Outlaw Preachers I talked about the EC group TransFORM, a network created by Steve Knight of Emergent Village.

And as I’ve said before, most all of the familiar names in the EC existential rebellion against the final authority of the Bible are to be found within; and it’s very important that you realize the EC has now also embraced a rather rapscallion bunch of largely biblically illiterate, and self-described, Outlaw Preachers (OPs) slithering up all around gay-affirming “pastor” Jay Bakker. OPs include such EC luminaries as Queermergent’s Adele Sakler and self-described “Queer Affirming” ELCA pastrix Nadia Bolz-Weber.

Having personally interacted with them, and from watching the growing acceptance of homosexuality as a viable lifestyle for the Christian within society in general, to quote words once sung by that late great pop philosopher Karen Carpenter: We’ve Only Just Begun. For example, Knapp’s announcement follows that of Ray Boltz in September of 2008, followed almost immediately by Clay Aiken, and then about a year later 6 time Stellar Award winning Gospel singer Tonéx would also come out as well.

It’s also no surprise that Progressive Christian and EC leader Tony Jones, heretical “theologian in residence” at the EC church of his equally heretical universalist pastor Doug Pagitt, would come out In Support of Jennifer Knapp. Jones is already on record that he believes it is not sin for the Christian to have sexual relations with a member of the same sex. [1] Tony Jones happens to be one of those Red Letter Christians, along with his friend Emergence Christianity guru Brian McLaren, who’re supposedly spiritually superior because they are the ones truly living the Words of Jesus.

Well, in Jesus Defines Marriage For Red Letter Christians I showed you how Jesus of Nazareth—our Creator—Who by the way, is speaking from the perspective of an eyewitness, defines marriage. From those Red Letters, as recorded by the Apostle Matthew who was standing right there, Jesus now informs us what marrriage is according to God in His reply to a question below:

And Pharisees came up to Him and tested Him by asking, “Is it lawful to divorce one’s wife for any cause?” He answered, “Have you not read that He Who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?”

“So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce and to send her away?” (Matthew 19:3-7, ESV)

And therefore, no matter what the cultural laws may say, sexual relations between members of the same sex will always be the sin of sexual immorality because it remains outside the marriage covenant as designed by the Creator. But, because they love the praise of men more than they love God, those Red Words they do not wish to live by. But the overarching issue becomes emergent when pro-gay advocates such as Queers United tweet the following:

The Christian Who Unrepentantly Sins In Public Brings Shame To Jesus

Knapp is perceived before the world as a Christian artist, which is why it’s important for us to make sure the issues are crystal clear. And this very wrong idea one is acting as a Christian while unrepentantly practicing homosexual relations is generating quite a bit of discussion right now. Take for example that today Knapp herself would tweet:

The above link takes us to Knapp’s Facebook Wall where, understandably, the vast majority of what I saw was supportive of her choice to remain in the sin of sexual immorality while claiming God approves. Such as the following:

He who dined with tax collectors, he who could have stoned the woman guilty of adultery, he who chos…e to forgive the woman at the well? If there’s sin to be had here, the Holy Spirit will convict her – she doesn’t need you beating her up as well. Get the log out your eye before you try to get the speck out of anyone else’s. Interesting how he says, “If there’s sin to be had here,” but then we’re not supposed to use those aforementioned “clobber verses,” which is where God the Holy Spirit might indeed bring the conviction of sin. No one credible is advocating being mean-spirited, after all none of us is without sin; I ’ve said it before, we need to be as loving, gentle, and patient as possible, but the Christian is an ambassador of Jesus Christ. We don’t do Jennifer Knapp any good to lie to her and let her think this choice is not sin.

And as I pointed out in Sadness For “Gay Christians” I don’t always see eye-to-eye with Dr. Ron Rhodes, but he was very kind to me when I was just starting out in ministry, and he is a solid evangelical scholar. The point being, he’s certainly not someone we would ever call a radical. In his helpful quick reference guide Homosexuality: What You Need To Know Rhodes is dead-on-target when he says:

In a Bible-believing evangelical church, church discipline is appropriate for a person living in unrepentant homosexual sin. If a member of a church chooses—without remorse, and without willingness to change— to remain a practicing homosexuality, then it is appropriate that this person be put out of fellowship with the rest of the church as a means of church discipline (Mathew 18:15-17; 1 Corinthians 5:11-13). The goal is not punishment but restoration to right living. (emphasis his)

Men and women, we have a very serious problem currently brewing within the mainstream evangelical community of the visible church because it has lost its faith in the all-suffiency of God’s Word in the Bible. And as you can clearly see, from the people I mentioned above, the Emerging Church is openly and aggressively embracing those unrepentant in their practice of homosexuality. Am I suddenly a mean-spirited unChristian Pharisee to say so; no. Should we embrace a heterosexual professing Christian who’s living in open adultery; no. The questions is: Isn’t sin, sin anymore? Today in evanjellyfish, no.

So indeed we should be sad for “gay Christians” like Jennifer Knapp because they are being lied to; and those who continue to do so are really the ones who are the hard-hearted Pharisees slamming the door to the Kingdom in the face of these who need Jesus. Having once been one of those trapped in my sin and feeling so helpless, in my song Hellbound, I would later write to the Church, “They need Jesus just as much as you do.” Dr. Walter Martin (1928-1989), whom Dr. Ron Rhodes once worked with, used to say: “It’s not unloving to tell the truth; you can get in a lot of trouble for doing it, but it’s not unloving.”

Jennifer Knapp: Rebellion

I just saw Jennifer Knapp on Larry King declare the she is in love with a woman. She admits that she is openly homosexual and a person of faith. I am not surprised to see this. What I am most disgusted about is the way the individual who stepped in because he was concerned about Jennifer, addressed the matter. A pastor came in from Horizon Christian Fellowship in San Diego, pastor Bob Botsford, to speak on Jennifer Knapp’s sin. In addition, Larry King brought on Ted Haggard a former pastor who had a relationship with a male prostitute and was removed from ministry.

I am writing because I was disgusted with pastor Bob Botsford’s attempt to address Jennifer’s issue. He came across as a poor and defenseless weakling. Pastor Bob brought the Bible into the studio and did not open it once! I am sure many of you saw the meeting or will see it on Youtube perhaps. What has happened to the men of God? There is no conviction to speak the truth with boldness! What if Christ Jesus, Paul, or any of the apostles and prophets represented Christ as he was represented on Larry King? Jennifer Knapp basically man-handled pastor Bob Botsford. Pastor Botsford basically murmured words of love across as Jennifer Knapp and Ted Haggard justified homosexuality. They claimed that the words in the Bible have been misinterpreted by the language we speak today. Because the “God is a God of love and grace and died for all,” argument was used against Botsford, he had no defense. He basically agreed with Haggard and Knapp. He could not tell them that Christ will judge them for their rebellion. Larry King hammered Botsford with stupid questions that he could not handle. We are all sinners and all do fall short of the glory of God, the difference is that Jennifer Knapp is in rebellion. She has chosen to live in sin and is very happy about it! Here is what Scripture says about sin, specifically to those like Jennifer Knapp and Ted Haggard who suppress and exchange the truth of God’s word for a lie:

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

God’s Wrath on Unrighteousness
18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

24Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

26For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Though they know God’s decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.” Romans 1:16-32

Jennifer, there is no escaping what the Scripture reveals. You laugh and smile about the sin you are in. In reality, you have faith, but not a faith that originates from the God of Scripture. Your leadership is deceived and if you and they do not repent, I will tell you what Bob Botsford did not tell you, you will suffer eternal perdition in Hell along with them. Your homosexuality is an outward manifestation of your unbelief. You do not believe the Bible to be the Word of God and because of this you have a God made in your own image; an idol. The Lord is a loving and gracious God, but He is also Holy and Just! As you laugh and feel happy about your sin Jennifer, you would do well to take heed to Psalm 2:

1 Why do the nations rage
and the peoples plot in vain?
2The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying,
3“Let us burst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.”

4He who sits in the heavens laughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.
5Then he will speak to them in his wrath,
and terrify them in his fury, saying,
6“As for me, I have set my King
on Zion, my holy hill.”

7I will tell of the decree:The LORD said to me, “You are my Son;
today I have begotten you.
8Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and the ends of the earth your possession.
9You shall break them with a rod of iron
and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”

10Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
be warned, O rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the LORD with fear,
and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his wrath is quickly kindled.

God isn’t concerned about our happiness brothers and sisters. He is concerned about holiness! Let us strive for holiness by growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord! Pastor Botsford, I have been harsh toward you, but I mean to cause you to rise up and speak boldly with confidence about what God has said without compromise! We are not to be ashamed! Let us press on and be as Elijah was. We will not back down! We have the truth and we must press ahead strong since we know that great day is coming when Christ Jesus will judge the living and the dead. We will pray for Jennifer Knapp and Ted Haggard to repent and embrace the Truth, turning from their rebellion! They are indeed exchanging the truth of God for a lie and actively suppressing the truth. Their lives are bearing what Scripture says is as a result of their depraved minds. There is no escaping what the Scriptures declare.

Recently, word came that Christian music artist Jennifer Knapp has announced she is a lesbian. The purpose of this Devotional today is to warn those who are not aware to what extent the pro-homosexual agenda is being fulfilled and to hopefully wake up the bloated, weak, and apathetic church that has to bear much of the responsibility for the moral decay of our culture. The goal of those who have chosen the homosexual lifestyle is to justify their sinful choice that is inherently destructive both to society and themselves. They are trying to force society to validate legally and ethically their choice of sexual behavior and relationships, and to enact laws that allow them to promote this sinful choice to our children as normal, even desirable behavior.

Let me say right up front, sin is sin in God's eyes. No sin is greater than another. The sin of homosexuality is no more, or no less a sin than murder, adultery, stealing, lying, gossiping, or gluttony. THE REASON THIS SIN IS BEING SINGLED OUT AND ADDRESSED IS BECAUSE THOSE WHO COMMIT IT, ARE PROUD OF THEIR SIN AND PROMOTE IT AS AN ACCEPTABLE LIFESTYLE!

People who commit adultery do NOT have parades to celebrate their sin. People who commit murder do NOT have political action committees to make murder legal and socially acceptable. People who steal do not have high school clubs and try to teach children that stealing is acceptable behavior. Homosexuality is a SIN in the eyes of God and is something to be ashamed of, NOT proud of.

Theologically this is not even a debatable issue. All through the Bible, from the Old Testament through the New, homosexuality is defined by God as a sin, PERIOD. God calls it an ABOMINATION! I have heard the tortured theological arguments homosexuals have made, but there is absolutely NO WAY to change the fact this act is a sin. Just because there is now a homosexual version of the Bible where they have literally changed the passages that call this act a sin, that does NOT change God's inspired, inerrant Word. Just because there is a fast growing homosexual denomination, the Metropolitan Community of Churches, that does NOT change the fact God calls this act a sin. I can guarantee you if I started a church that taught adultery was acceptable and wonderful behavior, I could fill stadiums on Sunday morning! THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN CHANGE THE FACT GOD CALLS HOMOSEXUALITY A SIN!!!

The two greatest lies the pro-homosexual community has put out are that 1) homosexuality is something that you are "born with," 2) 10% or more in our society are homosexual. First, modern science has CLEARLY rejected and been unable to prove that ANYONE is "born gay." IT IS A CHOICE!!!! GOD DID NOT MAKE ANYONE "GAY!" PEOPLE CHOOSE TO ENGAGE IN HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR!!!! LIKE ALL SIN, ONCE YOU DO IT LONG ENOUGH, IT MAY SEEM 'NATURAL', BUT IT IS STILL A CHOICE THAT YOU MAKE. The "struggle" people who choose this sin speak of is the same "struggle" we all have, to obey God or to sin! Also, all legitimate studies done by the non-homosexual community clearly show that less then 1% of the population EVER engage in this type of sexual sin.

A foolish arguments from those who choose this sin is that "why would anyone choose something that brought them ridicule, condemnation, and the hatred of so many?" People make that choice every day! I deal daily with men and women who CHOOSE to commit adultery and destroy their marriage, lose the love and respect of their children, in many cases ruin their career. People who choose sin choose to deal with the consequences of their sin.

Of course, anyone that dares to speak up on this issue is labeled as "intolerant" and a "homophobe." I find it amusing that Dr. Laura, who correctly pointed out that homosexuality is a deviant lifestyle, had her television program targeted and eventually taken off the air by the homosexual community. So this group that calls for tolerance by others, is very INTOLERANT when someone opposes their views. They also use the word "homophobe" to intimidate people from speaking out against their sexual choice.

Since I started Liveprayer over 10 years ago, I receive an average of 5-6 death threats a month. By far, the largest number of those threats over the years have been after running a Devotional on this issue. Any time I deal with this issue on my television program, I recieve some of the most hateful, nasty, vile emails that I have ever seen. But I can promise you one thing, I WILL NOT BE SILENT!

THE GREATEST PROBLEM IN OUR NATION TODAY IS THE DESTRUCTION OF THE FAMILY. God's definition of "family" is a man and woman that are married and their children. We have literally watched the family become perverted and destroyed over the past 40 years. The destruction of the family will be the ultimate destruction of our society. THAT is why this issue is so critical, because it destroys the family as God intended it to be!

The church better wake up and realize that while they have been building great buildings and getting fat, satan has been busy using the sin of homosexuality to destroy the family. As much of an abomination as homosexual churches are, equally as abominable to God are regular churches that accept homosexuality as a normal lifestyle!

Parents, you better wake up and be aware that your daughters are being taught at school that it is "cool" to have sex with other girls, it is called "lesbian chic." You also better be aware that your sons are being taught having a boyfriend is the "in thing." Lastly, you better be VERY AWARE of what is on television, in music, and out in the culture that is constantly sending the message to your children that homosexuality is a normal and acceptable CHOICE!

I love you and care about you so much. Pray for Jennifer Knapp to turn from this sin and back to the Lord. We live in a free society. If people who have chosen to engage in homosexual activity want to have their own schools, their own churches, their own television network, they have every right to. It is about time the church wakes up and realizes that those who promote this sin are bold and are stopping at NOTHING to get their message out to the masses.

THAT is why I am always talking about how the church, those who know Christ as their Savior, have got to quit preaching to the choir and start taking the hope and love of Christ to the world at large. As those who follow Christ, we also have a responsibility to pray for those who are in this bondage, for God to open their hearts to the truth of His Word, and to turn from their sin. Only God can change hearts, and for those who are in bondage to the sin of homosexuality, we must pray for them to open their hearts and turn from their sin.

Until Jesus returns, we will always have those who choose a perverted form of sex with those of their own gender, just like we will always have those who choose to pervert sex by having it outside of the bonds of marriage. While we can never accept their choice since it is clearly against God's Word, we must pray for them, just like we must pray for everyone who is battling sin in their life.

For those reading this who are currently fighting homosexuality, let me tell you that God has never stopped loving you, and is simply waiting for you to turn from your sin and come back to Him. We serve a God of deliverance from sin, a God of forgiveness, and a God of restoration. Millions have turned from the sin of homosexuality and found complete restoration and fulfillment in living a life according to God's plan. What He did for someone else, He can do for you! I pray today that you hear these words, and choose to find freedom from your sin today. That freedom is only a prayer away!

Rick Warren, in his talk at TED2006, stated (at approx. 21:00 in the video) that “God Smiles when You Be You”. He states a few seconds later that God gets pleasure out of “you being you.”

Friends, there’s a big problem with this message. Rick was speaking to an audience that was primarily non-Christians. Jesus Christ was never mentioned. Instead a humanistic message that “God loves us for being us” was given. This message is not the Gospel, obviously, but the worst part, is that as a Christian pastor, Rick Warren basically just opened the floodgates for any behavior at all. Believers and non-believers alike can now simply do whatever they want, and think (based upon Rick) that God will smile upon them, and receive pleasure from people being whoever they desire to be.

Being a pastor myself, my first thoughts were, “What do Scriptures say about this?” The first passage that came to mind was this:

1Peter 1:14-19: As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, (15) but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; (16) because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.” (17) If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth; (18) knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, (19) but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.

Now let’s take Rick’s message and apply it to Jennifer Knapp, the “Christian” who is now publicly stating that she’s a lesbian.

She appeared on Larry King Live just the other day, and made this statement:

Larry King: You say you’re the happiest you’ve ever been right now?
Jennifer Knapp: I’m pretty darn happy.
Larry King: So you’re glad all of this happened?
Jennifer Knapp: I am not a regretfull person.
Larry King: No, but you feel better?
Jennifer Knapp: I’m… I… I feel blessed to be able to fully be who I am. I love being able to be a musician and part of that process for me as a musician is being open and honest and to not feel like I have to lie or hide anything. I don’t necessarily want to talk about it all the time, but I don’t have to hide it either.
So based on what Rick Warren states, that God takes pleasure in “you being you”, Jennifer is currently being smiled upon by God, and He is taking pleasure in the fact that she is a lesbian.

Huh? How does that work?

Peter, speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, wrote “..be holy yourselvces also in all your behavior, because it is written, ‘YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY’”

So which is it? Is Rick right, or is God right? Did God actually mean what he said in Scripture? If so, how does it apply to me? When will the evangelical world wake up and see that Rick Warren’s humanistic man-centered Gospel is at direct odds with what Scripture teaches?

I pray that Jennifer comes to her senses, and that she is “snatched from the fire.” Her behavior and blatant lesbian lifestyle have made herx profession of faith as a Christian into nothing. What a sad commentary this is on the holiness of the church and the lack of biblical discernment on the part of Jennifer.

The Sad Truth Has Now Come Emerging

By now you may know that recently Christian Singer Jennifer Knapp came out as a lesbian, which Apprising Ministries covered in Jennifer Knapp And Homosexuality. The other night she appeared on Larry King Live as you’ll see below via SuchIsLifeVideos. In previous posts like Correcting Brian McLaren “On Faith” And Homosexuality I’ve warned that there’s a same-sex storm gathering hurricane force, which is right now, looming only slightly off the horizon of the mainstream evangelical community.

As I’ve pointed out before, there’s a very specific reason why the Lord moved me to begin covering the issue of a growing acceptance within evangelicalism that the deviant and sinful lifestyle of having sexual relations with another of the same sex, i.e homosexuality, is a viable one for the regenerated Christian. Now for those who may be familiar with fire bases in Vietnam, which were temporary artillery encampments there to provide fire support and quarters for ground operations near the front lines, in the dark of night there were many times enemy forces would try and move in for a sneak attack.

So periodically flares were shot high above the area to light up the night sky in order to monitor any possible movement of enemy troops. And even in this spiritual war Satan’s seducing spirits sneak around in the darkness with their didaskaliais daimonion (doctrines of demons). Well, I’m using the issue of homosexuality to light up the sky with the Word of God to give you a chance to see the wide, and very rapid, advance of the egregiously ecumenical Emerging Church—which is a cult of neo-liberalism now firmly within mainstream of the visible church. Its primary goal has been to attack Sola Scriptura.

Through its core doctrine of corrupt Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism (CSM), masquerading as spurious Spiritual Formation ala Living Spiritual Teacher and Quaker mystic Richard Foster and his spiritual twin Dallas Willard, Emergent Church leaders have been quite successful in taking the focus off proper Christian spirituality and putting it upon mere subjective feelings. As one theologian put it recently:

it is a defined dogma that God cannot be defined! And therein lies the rub, which I felt already in those early years, but which later became an even greater spiritual and intellectual irritant: how do I hold together all the certain knowledge I have as a theologian and am supposed to affirm as a believer with what I have increasingly felt,…

I’m not asking for some kind of neat, well-defined meaning to take the place of the literal meanings of those [cardinal doctrines of Christianity]. I, and many of my fellow Christians, are simply asking, “What do we believe if we don’t believe in the literal sense of such statements.” [1]

But no one’s saying that we know everything there is to know about God; what we are saying is: What God revealed about Himself in Scripture can be known; that’s a huge difference. You’ll often hear the following EC red herring as well; and you’d best get ready for it. The below was tweeted earlier today by EC church planter Jamie Arpin-Ricci, inner city pastor, Fransciscan, and missional practioner:

“The Bible is perfectly clear on that topic” can all too often be code for “This is what I believe & there is no room for discussion”. Hmmm (Online source)

However, that proves nothing because I can just as easily turn around and say, “The Bible is perfectly clear on that topic” can also be the code for “This is what the Bible does say, and so, I believe it & there is no need for discussion.” The above views are absolutely essential for such as these to open the door for existential, and unverifiable, mystic experiences as the criterion for interpreting Holy Scripture; in other words, they are imposing onto the text how they personally feel about a given section of the Bible. And being we have a corrupted reasoning process, due to the Fall, it’s a perfect recipe for spiritual disaster.

Professing Christian Jennifer Knapp Has Made The Sad Choice Not To Repent Of Her Sin

Now against this proper backdrop we look at Knapp’s appearance on Larry King Live. A couple of things come emerging: Knapp does indeed claim Jesus Christ; and she has chosen to contend that her unrepentant, and ongoing, homosexual lifestyle is not sinful one for a Christian. Knapp’s argument is essentially summed up below when King asks Jennifer Knapp about the Bible and homosexuality:

KING: You don’t feel that your Bible speaks against it. Or, do you?

KNAPP: Well, I think there’s plenty of evidence in my exploration of my faith through the sacred text of the Holy Bible that I have definitely recognized that we are somewhat at the handicap of our own interpretations of a sacred text. Let’s take for example the original Greek translation of which I am no academic scholar of. Yet, you know, we all know that any time that we read a book or we read any kind of word, that it becomes the interpretation of our life’s experience, what we want to bring out of that. Christian apologist Chris Rosebrough, host of Fighting for the Faith (FftF) on Pirate Christian Radio, has elsewhere done an excellent job refuting this argument. [2] And then Knapp uses another common liberal/progressive tactic of injecting a red herring to try confusing the categories. Knapp is talking with Pastor Bob Botsford of Horizon North County, whom I know nothing about, and she asks him a question he obviously wasn’t ready for:

KNAPP: If I am a sinner and homosexuality is a sin, let’s just go on that premise for a moment. But what separates that particular sin out from the fact that I’m angry or mad at someone or that I cheat or maybe, you know — what separates that out as so grievous to you that we have to sit here and have this type of conversation?

BOTSFORD: Well, it’s interesting. There’s — sin is sin. You’re absolutely right. And we all have sin.

KNAPP: So, why are we — why am I — why aren’t you in this seat and I’m in the other seat condemning you on national television? (Online Source)

I’ll come back to that in a moment. First, I remind you that previously in Jesus Defines Marriage For Red Letter Christians I showed clearly from the Bible Jesus defines marriage as strictly between a male and a female; and by doing so He is instructing us, from God’s standpoint, any homosexual activity will always be outside of the marriage covenant. And, since the Bible condemns all sexual activity outside of marriage as sin, therefore homosexuality is actually found among the sexual immorality that Christians are specifically told by God, our Creator, to flee from (e.g. see—1 Cor. 6:15-20).

So when Knapp introduces that “why” question, if you’re not careful to sidestep here and stay on point, you’ll end up running down a rabbit trail and end in what I refer to as wrestling with the snake. As soon as you focus on one area it then twists you to another, and before you know it, you’re far away from the subject you’re actually attempting to discuss. Concerning homosexuality, we must remind people that this is sin of a sexual nature, which immediately sets it apart from the other sin Knapp has mentioned above. Notice carefully what God tells us below:

Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. (1 Corinthians 6:18)

Can you see; the Holy Spirit chose to set all other sin apart from that of sexual immorality, which itself includes all sexual relations outside of marriage—whether it be homosexual or heterosexual. There’s Knapp’s answer right there: She’s willfully committing the sin of sexual immorality using her personal temple of Jesus Christ to bring Him shame before the world.


And my love for Jesus compels me now to call Jennifer Knapp to repent; and since she’s continuing to disregard the Word of God, she should now be very publicly, and openly, shunned by the Body of Christ until she repents.




Don’t you kid yourself; the EC is already embracing Knapp, also in violation of God’s Word, so look for her to show up at a major EC conference soon.


And you’d best understand that, with its new “big tent” Progressive Christian theology aka Emergence Christianity,

the neo-liberal cult of the Emerging Church is right now working to make affirming homosexuality an issue even within your own mainstream evangelical church—and sooner than you may even think.

She fails to realize just how grievous the consequences of homosexuality are. Sin is sin that's true but some sins consequences are much greater than others and that is why God hates homosexuality and calls it an abomination. It will destroy your life to a much greater degree than other sins. It will scar you for life even if you repent and are restored to the Lord. Pro 6:27 "Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned?

It's not that God condemns her but her sin that she keeps that condemns her. God holds his arms wide open to her to repent before she destroys her life and he grieves moreso for those caught up in such sin because it is one of the most painful acts a man or woman can commit.

To have the attitude that it's sin just like other sins is just an excuse to justify living an immoral lifestyle. I pray she repents

Though acknowledging that she is by no means a scholar or theologian, Knapp brought up the Bible translation issue to challenge those who cite the Bible as stating that homosexuality is a sin.

“Well, I think there is plenty of evidence in my exploration of my faith through the sacred text of the Holy Bible that I have definitely recognized that we are somewhat at the handicap of our own interpretation of a sacred text,” responded Knapp to King’s question on if she feels the Bible speaks against homosexuality.

“In the long run I don’t have the greatest deal of problems with it because I’m not the only person in the universe that has ever looked at a different interpretation,” she said. “We have advocates on both sides. It doesn’t make the truth any less the truth or love less love.”

The issue of Bible translation came up twice during the LKL show that featured Knapp, Pastor Bob Botsford of Horizon Christian Fellowship in San Diego, and former evangelical leader Ted Haggard, who was involved in a gay sex scandal in 2006.

Throughout the show, Botsford pointed to Scripture, which he believes to be inerrant, to argue that Knapp has succumbed to sin. He said while everyone is a sinner, the difference is that some people allow the sin to rule over their life and others try to overcome the sin.

“Allowing that to continue to reign over your life is not allowing Jesus Christ to be Lord,” said Botsford. “My role is to die to sin not to justify it.”

Knapp at one point during the show said she is not there to justify homosexuality, but to talk about her personal choice and path. She resisted the role of a gay activist and said Botsford has the right to teach his church his interpretation of Scripture on homosexuality. But she asked that he leave her out of it.

“I will repeat to you what I said to you backstage. That the next time that you want to talk about an example of what you mean to teach to your followers, please use the words this is the way this congregation and how we’re going to talk about homosexuality within our community, within our church,” said an apparently frustrated Knapp toward the end of the show. “And don’t use my name. Do not use my name as a substitute for the word homosexuality.”

Botsford said he felt compelled to speak out publicly about Knapp’s choice because she’s a person of influence in the Christian community. He said he does not want people to mistaken that what Knapp is doing is right.

Knapp recently revealed she has been in an eight-year relationship with a woman.

She has won four Dove awards and was nominated for a Grammy award. Her three albums combined have sold more than 1 million copies. She said she remained celibate for ten years while working in the Christian music industry.

But now, after a seven-year hiatus, she said she is “very comfortable” with her sexuality.

“I feel blessed to fully be who I am. I love being able to be a musician and part of that process of being a musician is being open and honest and to not feel like I have to lie or hide anything,” she said. “I don’t necessarily want to talk about it all the time, but I don’t have to hide it either.”

Knapp was diplomatic in her answers and appeared to restrain her emotions for the first half of the show. But toward the second half she expressed her frustration at Botsford, particularly when he said humans have perverted the love created by God.

“How am I perverted?” Knapp shot back.

At another point she told Botsford that he does not have the right to speak about her in the way he has publicly.

“I have spiritual leadership in my life. The pastoral counsel of those who are dear to me, who understand the scripture as sacred text and, Bob don’t interrupt me,” Knapp said. “And you are not that man in my life.”

Throughout the show, Haggard took a vague middle ground and refused to answer questions directly. He refused to give a clear answer when asked if homosexuality is a sin and whether it is a choice or not. The disgraced former megachurch pastor said both sides have valid points and that the most important thing is for people to have a personal relationship with God.

Knapp will release her new album in May. The album will not be marketed to a strictly Christian audience as her past works had been.

Jay Bakker, the apostate son of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, is on record as celebrating Jennifer Knapp’s lesbianism in his “sermon” here.

The new crop of feelings-oriented, biblically-illiterate young evangelicals is joining the gay cabal with gusto. Holy Scripture is no longer the authority on sexuality or anything else for that matter.

In this age of spiritual rebellion among professing evangelical Christians, Build-a-Faith franchises like Bakker’s church in New York are booming.

Jennifer Knapp & Larry King: Why We Always Lose this Debate

Trevin Wax has been “blogging regularly at Kingdom People since October 2006.” He also is a contributing writer for “other publications, such as Christianity Today.”

CRN points you to a thoughtful look by Wax at the debate concerning the subject of homosexuality, which is well worth the read:

I’m convinced that we continue to lose the argument about homosexuality and Christianity because the traditionalist almost always makes his case within a conversation that has been framed by the opposing viewpoint. The Christian doesn’t lose the argument at the micro-level.

The argument is lost from the beginning because of how the discussion is framed… Ultimately, the debate is not about homosexuality versus other sins. It’s about whether or not repentance is integral to the Christian life… Right now, the gay rights advocates are claiming that their opponents have a low view of humanity.

Actually, it’s the traditionalist who has the high view of humanity, understanding that we are more than our sexual urges and we have an inherent worth and value that leads us to do more than simply act on whatever instincts we feel… Unfortunately, the arrogance and imperialism of this [pro-gay] view is never exposed or questioned in these discussions.

For once, I’d like to see someone gently point out the implicit judgmentalism of the “homosexual behavior is legitimate” view…
