Extreme Theology: The Problems With The Purpose-Driven Definition of a Christ Follower

    Last 2 paragraphs:

Tragically, the "Jesus" that is presented in the sermons that promote this definition of being a Christ Follower isn't the savior of the world who died on the cross for the sins of the world and calls all nations to repentance of their sins and the forgiveness of sins won by Christ on the Cross. Instead, the "Jesus" that is presented in these sermons is a "life coach", a training buddy and the supreme example of an emotionally well adjusted risk taking leader who lived the ultimate life of significance and purpose. This purpose-driven "Jesus" is there to help you achieve what he achieved and invites you to follow his examples and methods so that you can be Christlike too.

This seeker-driven / purpose-driven definition of what it means to be a Christ Follower is fatally flawed and I fear that there will be many people who appear before the judgment seat of Christ saying, "Lord, Lord, we were emotionally well adjusted self-actualized leaders who lived a life of significance and purpose, took risks, enjoyed healthy sex lives in our marriages, celebrated recovery, tithed, volunteered at church and helped dig fresh water wells in Africa" and Jesus will say to them "Depart from me, I never knew you!" (Matt. 7:21-23)

We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. 2 Cor 5:20 NIV

And all because Christ was their "buddy" and not their SAVIOUR and KING.

Ah, but when someone's your "buddy" you retain some measure of control, don't you. Savior and King? With all that that truly entails? Oh my! That does not fit well with man's opinion of himself. No wonder the PD Jesus is so popular.

Man's opinion of himself isn't fit to be called, let alone USED as, fertilizer.

Man has demonstrated beyond all doubt that he is inept, incompetent, and a complete MORON when it comes to running his own affairs. One of the big reasons he NEEDS a Saviour and King is to save him from HIMSELF. Man is a bumbling buffoon who would sooner strike a bottle of nitroglycerin with a hammer to try to open it!

Man thinks he is just in a rut and all he needs is a life coach, when the truth is that he is gravely ill, and that is his heart of stone is not transplanted for a heart for god, he will die in his sins and be cast out FOREVER from the Lord's presence.

Shows how much man knows, right?
