No Secrets


We sometimes need to be reminded of why we do ministry. The calling on my life was given to me when I was 21 years of age. There were no words that any individual could have given me to persuade me to enter the ministry, or to stay out of the ministry.


When God tugged at my heart to follow Him into full time service for His kingdom, it was only because of His call.




To this day, I look back over the 28 years of ministry, and without a doubt, if my ministry work was for anyone one or anything other than God, I would not do it. I serve an audience of One. With that being said, I want to share with you some recent media attention that Lisa and I have received.



A local reporter has spent what seems to be a great deal of time investigating me concerning my integrity as the leader of Fellowship Church.

We have not seen the piece that was aired, nor will we give credence to it by watching. We do know that the report is scathing and creates the idea that I, along with my wife Lisa, have been dishonest in our business dealings and with our use of Fellowship Church as a means of obtaining personal wealth.




The reporter sent an email request for information, but refused to give us any details or information that he obtained from an anonymous source.

He only said that he has spoken with former staff members about us. But we have no verification of who he has spoken with.

We do not know his source(s) and it is irrelevant to us.

What we do know is that this report was made based on fragments of information gathered out of context and anonymously, and that it disregarded documented information that the Board of Directors for Fellowship Church is privy to and that is known by legal counsel and accounting audits.




The piece insinuates that I keep secrets from the congregation of Fellowship Church and that I use Fellowship Church to create personal wealth.


Let me say very clearly, Lisa and I have no secrets.



My life is lived in an aquarium, and I am not ashamed of that fact.

Do I share every detail of my life with the congregation of Fellowship Church? No. But it isn’t because my life is secretive.

It is because there are details that the proper people know, hold me accountable to and make the decisions based on what is best for Fellowship Church and its ministries.



I have never claimed to have lived a perfect life. I do, however, claim to live a life of integrity. I don’t make that claim lightly.



Before God, the Board of Directors and the legal and financial accountants have governed the workings of Fellowship Church and its staff.

We operate in a manner that is “worthy of the calling of Christ Jesus” and have no apologies, nor would we change anything that we have done on behalf of the unbelievable ministry of Fellowship Church.



Ironically, the reporter told a Public Relations spokesperson for Fellowship Church that this story was set to air during sweeps week, as it will be of high interest.


Well, every week is sweeps week for Fellowship Church.


And we will continue to do ministry with those who are far away from God in mind, and we will work tirelessly to make sure that the message of Jesus is at the forefront of everything we do.


The past 20 years have exceeded anything we could have ever imagined. Yet, at the same time, we truly believe the best is yet to come!

SBC PASTOR ED YOUNG JR IN LUXURY COVER-UP?

More bad news for those of us still with the Southern Baptist Convention. In the video below we’re told of an alleged cover up involving popular Southern Baptist pastor Ed Young Jr.

At his A Little Leaven website Christian Research Network contributor Chris Rosebrough adds in Ed Young Luxury Cover Up Uncovered **Updated**:

**Update February 5th at 1:44 PM EST**

I’ve contacted Fellowship Church and given them the opportunity to ’set the record straight’ on my radio program. So far I cannot get straight answers to simple questions.

The questions I believe need to be answered are:

1. Does the church own an $8 million dollar private jet?

2. If the church owns and $8 million dollar private jet then why was it NOT public knowledge?

3. Has Young used the $8 million dollar private jet for personal trips to tropical resorts in the Bahamas and Mexico?

Fact: Until Ed Young answers those questions then there ARE secrets that he’s keeping from his congregation despite his cliams to the opposite. (Online source)

As a follow-up to SBC Pastor Ed Young Jr In Luxury Cover-Up? here at Apprising Ministries I point you to Ed Young Jr’s blog where he tell us he’s Setting Things Straight and Moving On.

In introducing his video of the same title at his blog today Young, Jr says:

I took the opportunity to thank the church and address some recent news coverage. And now, we will continue to move forward and follow God in the work He is doing here. (Online source)

As I watched the video a couple of things came emerging; 1) the board members protesteth too much, and 2) The first to plead his case seems right, Until another comes and examines him (Proverbs 18:17, NASB), So stay tuned; indeed, likely we ain’t seen nothing yet.

Here's Ed making espresso in his current kitchen. How many thousands of dollars do you think that commercial quality Italian La Marzocco espresso machine cost? Answer: $12,000 - $15,000

We wonder what a $15,000 shot of espresso tastes like. As Ed Young says in the video below, "if you want great espresso then you've got to pay the price".

Southern Baptist pastor Ed Young, Jr is the very popular Purpose Driven/Seeker Driven pastor of a megachurch known as Fellowship Church (FC) in Grapevine, TX. Young’s bio at FC tells us:

Ed Young is a pastor, author and conference speaker noted for his creative communication style. He has a passion for making the complex, simple as he speaks truth to people in ways they can understand and apply to their everyday lives. He has written 13 books, including The Marriage Mirror, Outrageous, Contagious Joy, Beauty Full, and Kid CEO.

Ed is a frequent conference speaker, and he provides resources for church leaders through CreativePastors.com and the Creative Church Conferences (C3)… Ed Young Ministries broadcasts a weekly television program throughout the world. Ed Young Television can be viewed nationally and internationally on TBN, Daystar and God TV. (Online source)

Apprising Ministries told you yesterday in that Young has now responded to allegations of living an overly luxurious lfestyle by NBC affiliate WFFA News 8 in Dallas/Fort Worth. We also pointed out that Christian apologist Chris Rosebrough, host of the Fighting for the Faith (FftF) program on Pirate Christian Radio (PCR), has been examining this issue further.

Rosebrough shares some of his findings in Ed Young’s Admissions Are More Damning Than The Original News Story at his A Little Leaven (ALL) website. In addition last night Rosebrough revealed via a tweet:

I’m gonna put @EdYoung ’s admissions in proper perspective on tomorrow’s program. His admissions are VERY damaging. (Online source)

Then today ALL takes us Inside Young’s “Parsonage” via a post where we can view a couple of videos:

It’s important to keep in mind here there are many pastors who would struggle personally to make that in an entire year. And one wonders, for example, with the current situation going on in Haiti why someone like Jonathan Falwell would be so quick to attempt to justify this kind of obviously ostentatious lifestyle:

This is a sad example of a greedy hireling. Stuff like this brings shame upon the name of the Lord. I do not understand why so many people defend pastors CEO’s like Ed Young.

If the people giving to the church would demand to see the following it will prevent a great deal of financial abuse:



The pastor’s salary and full benefits
The church financial records with real numbers and not misleading percentages
Hold the pastor and leadership accountable



Those who give to support the church have a right to know how their donations are being spent.

I’m not saying we should pry into a pastor’s IRS records and/or look into his salaries outside of the church(book deals etc…) because this type of income is not by donations.

All I’m saying is that all church salaries, benefits, and church financial records should be open for all members to see.



This would go a long way in preventing abuse.

If the people see the abuse and still continue to give then that is their choice.

As it stands currently, many of these types of churches refuse to disclose this information while hiding behind a privacy statement.


If you are living by donations then those giving donations have a right to see where the money is being spent.


I truly believe that an honest pastor/church has no reason to hide this information from their members who give to make the church function.

hardly a comment from the SBC leaders on this, but than again the SBC has become so infected with emergent and universalism teachings

and contemplative prayer and seeker driven madness, I am not surprised the SBC is largely silent on this
