I'm posting this in the "Apostasy" section because, I suppose, I'm so disgusted with the continual liberal leaps the leaders of my denomination -- The United Methodist Church -- continue to try to make, in spite of the overall center-right stance of the majority of United Methodists. (Yeah, it should just be "right," but "center-right" is still better than it could otherwise be).
Anyway, my father is a now-retired UMC minister, who remains active in the church. He sent me this VERY UPSETTING excerpt from the United Methodist Book of Discipline:
"Health care is a basic human right. Providing the care needed to maintain health, prevent disease, and restore health after injury or illness is a responsibility each person owes others and government owes to all, a responsibility government ignores at its peril. Like police and fire protection, health care is best funded through the government's ability to tax each person equitably and directly fund the provider entities. We believe it is a governmental responsibility to provide all citizens with health care." (The United Methodist Church Book of Discipline, Paragraph 162; 2008)
MY take is that it sounds like "Socialism-R-Us."
