False Teachers
May 22nd, 2009

The other night I was watching a Dateline about these “pastors” in Africa who excercise demons out of kids they believe are witches.

These kids are young…one was only 5,

and these “pastors” do these mean things to these kids like poor hot wax on them and bite them so as to remove these demons.

These “pastors” would then charge the parents a huge amount of money for this service, and these families are already poor.

I felt so bad for these kids because most of them didn’t even get what was going on

and their parents were there approving of this practice;

and some parents were even helping.

One dad was interviewed in front of his 2 little girls who had just gone through this and

he said he believed that his daughters were witches becuase

he doesn’t have any other explanation for why he is poor and has bad health.

As I watched this I began to think of the following passage of scripture:

Matthew 7:21-23, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’

Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

It has always amazed me the things people will do “in the name of Jesus” and people will follow them.

There are so many false teachers out in the world today that sometimes its hard to teach people the truth of the bible because of all the false teachings that are in the world.

When I think about that I can begin to question why these people are allowed to speak and why people listen to them.

The other day I was at CiCi’s for dinner with my family and I saw 2 Mormons talking to a man while they ate dinner,

and I counldn’t look away.

I kept looking over, staring at them, trying to figure out what they were saying.

I again thought about how they have led so many astray from the truth of the bible.

And I began to ask myself why they were allowed to get away with it.

These people might be allowed to teach false teachings now,

but one day they will look God in the face

and he will tell them that he doesn’t know them,

and then he will dismuss them to an eternity of punishment.

The battle for those who actually follow the truth of scripture is to get the truth out to expose these lies.

And it is that battle that we need to constantly rely on God’s strength, because on our own we can never do anything.

But with God all things are possible.

The most comforting thought in this battle is that someday those false teachers will be punished,

and those that follow Jesus and his truth for real will be rewarded.

Until then we have to continue to fight to get out the truth in a world of lies.
