man from southern Israel divorced his wife this week because she had brought 550 cats into their home.

The husband, apparently not a cat lover, told the Rabbinical Court in Beersheba that he was unable to sleep in his bedroom because the surface of the marital bed was constantly covered with cats who refused to lie on the floor.

The man, in his divorce request, complained that the cats also blocked his access to the bathroom and did not allow him to prepare meals in the kitchen, the Hebrew daily Maariv reported Wednesday. When he sat to eat, cats jumped onto the table and stole his food.

The couple attempted reconciliation at the behest of the rabbinical court. The wife, however, was unable to part from her cats… and preferred to part from her husband.

I think this couple obviously didn't talk over things before they got married. How in the world go you get engaged to a woman with so many cats in the first place??

I thought that only old un-married ladies had that many cats? Apparently this poor woman was missing something from her life that she thought she could get from a cat, (like a God-sized hole, with the Messiah mixed in) that when one cat didn't fill it, she kept getting more to stand in the gap? It's sad that her marriage was so unfulfilling that close to 600 hairy stuck-up felines were the better choice.

First, I have 2 dogs which are great pets and part of our family and I love to photograph birds, I enjoy animals. But we are living in sad times where not just this lady but groups like PITA and individuals put animals above humans. To these people even a slight mistreatment of animals, they want to lock you up or fine you but they are just fine with abortions of babies. I think it's just one more sign of the depraved times we live in before Jesus comes for us. And how could you afford to feed 550 cats? That's a lot of kitty chow.

Very sad anyone would choose animals over people. My mother is a cat hoarder and her reasoning is that cats love unconditionally and won't stab her in the back.

I simply cannot fathom the smell of the home. That alone would be enough reason to leave, forget the cats stealing my food. I wouldn't be able to eat because the smell would be so nauseating. I think that woman has a mental illness and as was mentioned above a God sized hole in her life. What a sad story.

I don't know if you watched it, but what is so bad about it is that most of them were loose, only some were in cages. Just a SEA of rats on the floor. Latest update is that now he has only two and didn't acquire any more after the cleanup.
