Remember the Old Paths! Where the Way was straight! And the Truth held high. Where the Word was believed, and not denied.
Remember the Old Paths! "Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein." (Jeremiah 6:16)
Remember the Old Paths! "Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up." (Jeremiah 18:15)
Man of God, remember the Old Paths! Be the man of Isaiah 58:12!
O Lord! Bring us to our knees. No, to our faces before you! May we repent of the new paths, repent of our spiritual laziness and carelessness! Why do we search for new things to preach? And new ways to work? The Old Paths are still good ... they are still straight! The Word has not changed. The Gospel has not changed. The Truth has not changed. And men certainly have not changed! Though they do wax worse and worse. Let us preach the Word in the old way, trusting in God's Holy Spirit to do HIS work in response to our faithful proclamation of the gospel. And may we measure our success not by the number of souls that "got saved" or how big our churches are. Those things are God's work, not ours. Let us instead measure our success by our faithfulness to His Word, and by the Spirit of Christ manifested in us, all as described in every word of Isaiah 58.
