    There The Vultures Will Gather
And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles (in some texts “vultures”) be gathered together.” Maybe I’m just thick, but what in the world does the part about eagles/vultures mean?

    Q. Luke 17:34-37 reads: “I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles (in some texts “vultures”) be gathered together.”

Maybe I’m just thick, but what in the world does the part about eagles/vultures mean?

Thanks so much, as always, for your help.

    A. This passage is equivalent to Matt. 24:39b-41. The Lord was talking about the judgment of Tribulation Survivors at the 2nd coming, and using a proverb common to the day. When the disciples asked where the two people in one bed, the two men in the field, and the two women grinding grain were, He replied, “Where there’s a dead body, there the vultures will gather.” He was saying, in effect, that it would happen wherever there were people to whom the event pertains. In other words, it will be world wide.

When you see the Buzzard you will know judgment is near

Revelation 22:17a The Spirit and Bride are now saying, "Come!" The ones who hear are now saying, "Come!" The ones who thirst are now saying, "Come!"
    Come LORD Jesus !

    Default Idomatic expression mayb ???

I am thinking that this is an idomatic expression
    in that
the same expression is used in different context ...
Matthew - context is his second coming
    and
Luke - context is rapture - one left one taken

I am thinking that it means ... from a middle east context
that if you see buzzards ... you will see a corpse
    ie
    they cant be separated ...
    so
in Matthew ... the disciples ask some questions about his second coming appearance and the end of the age ...
I think Jesus is saying that these two events cannot be separated
when he appears - it will be the end of the age
the buzzards - and the corpse ... always together ...

    the passage in Luke ...
one taken and one left behind ...
cannot be separated ... when you see some are taken
the others are left behind - these events go together ...

the raptue cannot be separated from those left behind
cannot be separated from Jesus appearance ...
    sooo ....

does anyone know of a source for middle east Idioms
i cant find any gud reference to support this idea ...
but it sounds reasonable ... wat you think ???

You might find this explanation interesting: http://forum.jerusalemperspective.co...opic.php?t=399

It's on a site that seeks to put the teachings of Jesus into a Hebrew context. I think their view that Jesus was here referring to a passage in Job (Job 39:28-30) is spot on. Many seem to have missed the fact that Job uses the same proverb, mainly because many English translators have misinterpreted the NT Greek and the OT Hebrew that it renders.

But it all fits. I have found over the years that there is nothing Jesus taught that is recorded in the NT that cannot be found in the OT ... once again demonstrating the coherence and integrity of the entire bible.

Great reference to Job 39:30 and Yes i like the comment by Rober Lindsey on that site:
Job 39:29 "From there he spies out food; His eyes see it from afar.
Job 39:30 "His young ones also suck up blood; And where the slain are, there is he."

Robert Lindsey reached the conclusion that the setting for Jesus' saying was a meeting between Jesus and his disciples on the Mount of Olives just prior to his Ascension (Jesus Rabbi & Lord, p. 188). Jesus tells his disciples that at the rapture many people will be left behind ("one will be taken and the other left"). The disciples are concerned, and express this in just one word: איפה (eyfoh, where). "Where will you be, Lord? How will we reach you?" Jesus calms his disciples with a well-known proverb: "Wherever there is a slain person, there vultures gather," that is, "Wherever I am, there you also will be." At his appearance, the disciples instantaneously and miraculously will be found in his presence.

    back to Matthew 24:28
I am not sure if Jesus is referring to the rapture passage ahead verse 31 and his coming again verse before verse 27 ???
Mat 24:27 "For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Mat 24:31 "And He will send forth His angels with A GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.

If sooooo then Jesus is saying that the rapture is tied directly to his appearance or visible second coming. The buzzard-corpse verse is sandwiched in between possible tying these two events together which cannot be seperated.

    Back to Luke 17: 37
Luk 17:37 And answering they *said to Him, "Where, Lord?" And He said to them, "Where the body is, there also the vultures will be gathered."

Are the disciples asking Jesus "where" are they going? ie the ones taken. Where will the raptured ones be taken ???
Jesus answer is possible in reference to his previous comment:
    Luk 17:20 Now having been questioned by the Pharisees as to when the kingdom of God was coming, He answered them and said, "The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed;
Luk 17:21 nor will they say, 'Look, here it is!' or, 'There it is!' For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst."

Jesus is coming just like lightening
The kingdom is coming at the same time
The rapture is happening at the same event ...
these events cannot be separated in time or space ... just like the buzzards and the corpse ... they appear together ....

The buzzard seems to have important things to say about the timing of the rapture ... .. ???
